Maxtor drives own.

That's all I buy, got 80GB ATA133 + 120GB SATA in my main machine, not using them for RAID though.

I've had more then my fair share of Maxtor drives fail lately, but when you've got a dozen or so on the go, it tends up the odds.

I'm running 2x160's in striped mode for serious speed. I'm beginning to think these drives weren't meant to handle it. I've never been through this many drives in a such a short period of time ever.

I also have bad experience with Maxtor drives in my RAID system... 60 or 160 it doesn't matter. Both sucked

we had over 12 Western Digitals crash on us.

All we use now are the 120 Maxtor's Anything over that fails.

In my experience Maxtor owns Western Digital hands down...

I had about 12 Maxtor drives and only 2 failed me... Now for WD I got about 6 of them and 2 already failed me.. All bought around the same time frame.

Maxtor > WD

The WD 8mb cache HD's are the best, I've had several of them with no failures.

My past few machines had cheap Maxtor drives, and they have both failed on me.

One of the component suppliers I use for my PC said there was a 6 month period when Western Digital's factory was having some major manufacturing kinks happening and a ton of drives went out with defects.

I've always like WD's the best. I've only had one drive go bad and it was my own fault cause I drop it off a work counter and it took a 3 ft dive. The data was recoverable, but it was clicking away.

I'm using some Maxtors also. Of all the drives I use, they seem to be the noisiest.

I really like this new Seagate External drive that came out recently. Got a really sharp design. Totally quiet and running perfect so far.

The 160 Gb SATA Maxtors run so freaking hot they melted a plastic enclosure inside my case. They haven't failed yet but I wouldn't be surprised if they did some time soon. Nothing could run this hot and last long.

What raid are you running them on, I haven't had many problems with Maxtor on raid.

I have 5 Maxtor and their well over a yr old, all 80 gig & 60 gig drives.

I've used EVERY BRAND.
The older maxtors were ok but like western digital they recently began outsourcing thier cheaper drives to mexico.
The best cheap 120GB HD's PERIOD..... Hitachi.
