Okay, just to play devil's advocate here. Can you imagine the backlash and bad press if Disney came to the adult industry for help in avoiding this issue? Of course, they probably did not realized that they were involved in it by buying the license either. But this way they can play the victim and not say they willingly got involved with the porno people for help.
I'm not happy about this development, but I can sort of understand the situation. :( |
Not a company I wanted to have sign with them:(

Hunh? Disney's already in the adult industry. They own everything for 10,000 miles around except the breathin'. It'll be worse if Comcast does buy Disney or Time Warner. |
For people with big money, they may think there can be far more money made than lost by signing the contracts and purchasing the stock.
I think that has happened quite a few times so far with some of these big companies. They may see it more as a high return investment opportunity more than a threat to their business.... espeically when you may be able to get a sweetheart deal (that could further lower your investment risk) if your name is big enough. |
Micky Mouse sold out?
Fuck that man, thats not right. Burning all the Disney DVD's right now... |
let's not forget SightSound and USA Video, especially with BMG settling with SightSound.

Dave, you were one of the first to sign weren't you? To call your partners blood suckers isn't very gentlemanly.

Playboy has been targeted by Acacia, but not sued, but are in discussions. I am sure Acacia is just salivating to get Playboy to settle so they can run their name through the PR grinder, just like they did with Hustler. Also ICS Inc. (Adult.com/GFY) was served with a lawsuit on 12/18/03.... no word on whether they are joining the defense group, defending themselves, or settling. Fight the Wondering! |
That's horrible news. A lot of people were expecting the big mainstream companies to fight Acacia.

Those 100+ licenses are without names, so that wouldn't be too impressive to Disney and to other potential licensees. I am sure Acacia was all to quick and proud to be able to showcase Hustler, being a very prominent and well known name. It is a shame that one's company can be used as a poster boy, but the contractual agreement obviously allowed them to troll Hustler's name around. I am sure they are not happy about this, it was their business decision to settle and probably wanting to move on and focus on making mo' money. It's like when you are offered the choice of getting a lecture or a beating. Some would go for the beating to get it over with, since the lecture would just go on and on. What's not fair, is if you end up getting the beating and the lecture. Fight the Analogy! |
Personally, I think signing on Hustler was one of their biggest moves. If Larry isn't going against them, why the hell should Disney? I've got hope that Bill has enough cash to smash them and I'm also hoping he's got servers+servers+servers of very old proof of when everything did show up and happen. Keeping my fingers crossed.
As for Disney, I won't be surprised when (what's his name?) Eisner gets fired from Disney, that he has a job signed, sealed with ACACIA (he's probably just waiting for the severance package to get ok'd) <---I'm MissFortuneTeller, and that's my prediction :-)) |
