Have you patched your Linux kernel this week?

A second serious vulnerability in the mremap system call found in the Linux kernel was discovered Wednesday and enterprises are urged to immediately update to new versions of the kernel or apply patches from their distributor.

"On a scale from zero to 10 where zero means no danger at all and 10 the most dangerous hole -- all in the case of a local attacker that means a person with local shell access -- this hole can be scored as 10," said Paul Starzetz, a researcher with Polish security firm iSEC Security.

i've supported unix machines for the last 12 years. I've touched most major *nix's
on the desktop. The one that sucks
the least is OSX.

Open is ok I guess. But I personally
wouldn't use it for a desktop. server sure, in fact I do.

I use slack for my main desktop pc but I've been playing around with freebsd on another partition and quite like it... I like the security aspect of openbsd but there seems to be less of a community of desktop users.

If you hava a SATA drive and want FreeBSD as a desktop OS, forget about it in its current state. I just finished about 2 hours worth of work just to get 5.2 running KDE properly. At least it's smooth...

Edit:
4.9 as a desktop works beautifully, though.
