Most ridiculous thing I've ever had to do

I wrote and mailed a check for $0.01 today. That's right.. a check for one cent and it cost me 37 cents to send it.

I electronically sent what I thought was my final mortgage payment earlier this week. I calculated what the interest would be and added that to the total. Well seems the mortgage company always rounds up, never down. I was left owing 1 red cent!

I called them this morning figuring after all those rounded pennies they'd forgive just one. When I told the woman on the phone the situation she says "Mail a check for 1 cent." I laughed and said I figured they'd write if off. She replied very matter of factly.. "It's a bank, mamm." So I sent them the damn check.

I've done better than that

When i move to LV, and shut off the utilities after my house in Texas sold, the water department sent me a bill for $0.00

ok no big deal, nothing owed, threw it out

then they sent me a late notice... i just threw it out

Then a collection agency sent me a bill, for $0.00

So i wrote them a check for zero dollars and zero cents, and sent it to them

I underpaid a 407 bill accidentally by 34 cents once...

They sent me to collection, so I figured I'd get even. I sent them a cheque for 35 cents.

They have to send me an account statement every month.. must cost them 55 cents a pop, and I've been getting them every month for about 3 years now.

What a way to destroy forests.

Damn, that was lame of them.

That reminds me, CCBill is still fucking charging me $0.37 for each check they send me when the postage on the envelope is only $0.29. I need to talk to them about that.

lol! PK you are always getting nickel and dimed....errrr, pennied?

Off topic but an attorney recently told me that most states use the same software to receive queries from insurance companies for traffic violations. He said that your violation won't show up if your ticket isn't settled so.....he says that you should pay your ticket but overpay it by one dollar. The state will take forever to send you the dollar refund and then when you get it you dont cash it therefore your account isn't "settled". I dunno if this is true but it sounds good ;) lol

Its better to send a check than an actual penny, this way you have a record and the bank wont be coming by to take your house away because of one cent.

Speaking of traffic tickets I gotta goto court again in 4 days.

When I worked in collections we had people that used to send their final checks to us covered in shit, sent joints, picutres of them naked ( why I never kept these as amatuer content, lol) and my favote, letters telling us off...............

People would pay like clockwork every month for years and then the final payment they would tell us to get fucked since " they paid enough, blah blah blah...."

It was crazy being on the recieving end of those 1 cent checks. We'd be amazed compaines would tell us that they'd take action if need be to recover their funds, lol........

Insanity of banking.

I got a check from a utility company for $.01 cent once with a full page apology letter stating that due to a computer programming error their customer bills had been calculated incorrectly and everyone had been overcharged.

Ugh I've had to do that bullshit before. How stupid is that. And it's probably going to cost them more to process the damn check in admin fees than the cent it's worth. You'd think these companies would be a little less anal

PK, when that check comes back in your monthly bank statement - make sure to frame it. It's not every day that you pay off your mortgage with one cent!

You should have sent them a check for $0.02 so they would have to issue a refund.

You posted this before, I always get a laugh out of it.

Banks own us all, that penny thing doesn't surprise me. MrPheer's problem was probably a mistake somewhere, the funny thing is PK's 1 cent at the bank is standard practice.
