READ THIS PLEASE!!! Has anyone heard of this?? Is it common??

Jim (02:24 AM) :
Hey man'

DonovanPhillips (02:24 AM) :
Hello.

Jim (02:24 AM) :
I don't know if anyone has tld you this, but there are TGP Scripts out there that don't allow .JPG vs .jpg extensions

DonovanPhillips (02:25 AM) :
Example?

Jim (02:26 AM) :
http://www.donovanphillips.com/galle...Dirty4Free.com

Jim (02:26 AM) :
That gallery for examle has all .JPG img extensions

DonovanPhillips (02:26 AM) :
i mean, an example of a tgp running that script

Jim (02:26 AM) :
If I tried to submit that to EasyPic for example it would tell me that it cannot find any images

Jim (02:27 AM) :
Not only that, but many unix servers don't recognize captial chars

Jim (02:27 AM) :
It depends how it's setup

Jim (02:28 AM) :
Our server will allow .JPG extensions, but if one is not configured to do that, I believe the default setting is no caps

DonovanPhillips (02:29 AM) :
Hmmm.... this is honestly the first time I've heard this, and I've had hosted galleries for about a year and a half. Not even counting all the time my site has been in existence.

Jim (02:29 AM) :
I am not surprised

DonovanPhillips (02:30 AM) :
funny thing is, i've had galleries listed on Easy Pic.

Jim (02:30 AM) :
You should contact Pierre and ask him why your present galleries aren't being allowed

Jim (02:31 AM) :
I know that he has started a new program within the last 2 months for private submissions, perhaps he has changed the script since then

DonovanPhillips (02:34 AM) :
Okay, I emailed him about it. Thanks for advising me on this.

Jim (02:34 AM) :
Sure man

Jim (02:34 AM) :
I would love to be able to use those galleries

Jim (02:34 AM) :
On EasyPic

DonovanPhillips (02:34 AM) :
I have over 1,000 affiliates and not one of them has mentioned a problem yet.

DonovanPhillips (02:35 AM) :
That is weird.

DonovanPhillips (02:35 AM) :
I'll tell you what he said.

Jim (02:35 AM) :
Thanks man

DonovanPhillips (02:35 AM) :
(when he replies)

Jim (02:35 AM) :
Hopefully he will reply soon

DonovanPhillips (02:35 AM) :
Do you mind if I post part of this conversation on GFY to see how
many people out there have this turned on?

Jim (02:36 AM) :
Sure

DonovanPhillips (02:36 AM) :
Thanks! I'll give you a link to the URL so you can read the replies.

Jim (02:36 AM) :
Ok cool

Unix is case sensitive, so file.jpg and file.JPG are two separate things. Whether a script was configure to detect either case or just one depends on the functions used in the script - eg. in php ereg() which is case sensitive vs eregi() which isn't. Probably best to use all lower case just in case, any batch renaming tool can do it in a split second.

When dealing with urls... but how about the links to pics imbedded in a gallery? Does each pic need to be lower cased?

There is a difference between the way apache reads the links in the page and the way the unix will when it's running the tgp's submission script. If you're having problems make them all lowercase just to be safe.

the link to the pic is still a url.

sounds like the script searches the gallery for the term ".jpg" and misses ".JPG". it's sloppy scripting, but it's very possible that this happens.

I've never had a problem. I've never bother changing the .JPG to .jpg in the past. But this evening one of my affiliates ICQ'd me to let me know that these sorts of problems exist. I'd never heard of such a thing before.

Hi,

it depends a lot on how badly the script is written that checks the gallery. Its always safer to lowercase them in case the script does a case sensetive compare and looks for ".jpg"
