I do want a Dell. I want an Inspioron 8600 with a fast processor. They only go up to 1.7 though.

Friends don't let friends buy Dell.

Especially after they killed an order from Jack Weigand of Weigand Combat Handguns because Dell thought the computer might be used for illegal uses because the company had the word "combat" in their name.

Seriously, check out Alienware's offerings, I belive they make a better product than anything Dell has now.

Haven't had any first hand experience with AlienWare, but I've heard nothing but praise. Still, I would recommend a Mac Powerbook. You can't go wrong with a Mac.

alienware are made in the same place as dell. people just hype them up because they like to brag about thier way over priced bullshit.

Aaron, i went with Toshiba for my latest laptop purchase, no complaints whatsoever. you can order them with more specs if youd like. i think you can customize sony laptops as well.

That's a mobile processor, the other dell series usually have the normal 2.8 or 3.0Ghz HT.

Those are two different things.

the mobile processors perform quite admirably when compared to higher clocked p4's, from what i hear.

but if you're looking for another solution, check out an ibm t40 (or similar).

ibm makes fucking awesome hardware.

HP/Compaq offer custom built up to 3.2ghz I believe and despite what you may have heard everyone I know who has actually owned one of their newer machines has given nothing but praise. I am actually considering one myself.

i like hp stuff, it's cheap.

but that's the problem with it (other than say their industrial-grade products like hp-ux servers), it's cheap.

i've seen a few hp laptops since the compaq takeover, and was not that impressed. while the price was right, and the performance was decent, the build quality was not very impressive.

i was much more impressed with hp laptops before the takeover...

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 5100. Its on its way, should get it on Monday or Tuesday.

I bought it purely to take with me when I am out of Scotland so I can still work. I have two great desktop computers already so I thought I might as well add a laptop
