Thunderstruck? Eruption? you're kidding right...

Most intermediate players can play both those.

As for the fastest players... Michelangelo, John Petrucci (There's a lot of ridiculously quick widdly widdly on the new DT album) or Shawn Lane.

John Petrucci has a sickeningly fast solo on the track "Fatal Tragedy" off the Dream Theater album "Scenes From A Memory" for those with the CD - Track 5 about halfway through

Fast for the sake of fast is lame. That's why the average person has never heard of Michelangelo, Shawn Lane, Vinnie Moore, Paul Gilbert, Chris Impelliterri etc.....

But how people can hum a Journey, Hendrix, Boston or AC/DC solo ?

That's where it's at.

I love shred and wish real rock makes a comeback someday.

Now... but at the time they were released... Eddy was definately on top. So most intermediate players can play that stuff... of course... that is what every guitar player tried to emulate... so that is what set the standard for today's guitarists....

BTW - None of these people can compare to some speed metal bands.... Dave Mustane is pretty fucking fast

Being a guitarist for 20 years myself and studying alot of musical forms, if you want to talk speed check out bluegrass / country pickers.

I was a huge shred fan back in the day and still love satch, vai, eric johnson and all the others.......but Some of them boys are the meanest flat pickers that you will ever see, and they do it all on acoustic guitars.
