Any Pinnacle 8 Users Out There?

I don't really have a BIG interest in being a top-notch video editor but I do have an interest in doing some basic shit. Just downloaded Pinnacle 8 and within a couple of hours, I had almost figured out the whole program. I've already spit out a couple of clips and they don't look half bad. I'm sure with a little practice I can fine tune things & have them looking even better.

I want to shoot more video stuff 'cause I keep hearing that's where the REAL money is. I've shot lots of solo girl & hardcore for Oliver Klozov & was very happy with the results. But it looked even better once our kick-ass editor got his hands on it. This should prove to be a fun little adventure

Any of you folks have experience with Pinnacle 8?
Anything you think I should know about the program?

Pinnacle 8 is fucking great.

I have produced about 100 hours of video and dvds through it, absolutely perfect and look great on a 70 inch TV screen.

The bad news is that Pinnacle is the worst company on the planet for selling you shit. None of their products (including Studio 8) were worth 2 shits until at least 2 years after released and 15 betas later.

So don't even look at 9.0 yet, 8 just got stable a couple months ago.

Also the capture is broken pretty badly - I use a product called scenalyzer to read in min-dv and nero to write out dvds, but otherwise studio 8 is pretty good.

Defrag the hard drive that I'm using to store the footage?

Yeah, the defragging is pretty important to fast smooth operation of the video and gets rid of bad sectors that can also muck up things.

P.S. your EX-camera is doing just fine..grin

I have one machine dedicated to video. Once a project is complete, dump the files & footage, empty the recycle can, reboot & defrag.
Otherwise you will go through a hell of a bumpy ride, with dropped frames and rendering hangups

I'm still using version 7, nice and stable.
I have one firewire drive dedicated to dumping, editing, and rendering. Never have defragged it because xp says it doesn't need it when I check it after deleting everything on it. (using ntfc) I've been using this same drive almost every day for almost 3 years now.

Thanks for the info -
What program are you using to compress clips for the net?
Pinnacle 7 or something else?

I used Pinnacle 7, then loaded Pinnacle 8 which works fine, but crashes when I try to use the DVD making option.

As Pinnacle 9 is out, I guess Pinnacle 8 had bugs in it as v8 has not been out long.

As its so cheap, I am going to get Pinnacle p and hope it has no bugs in it.

In Pinnacle 8 it gives you two options to load up footage. AVI file or MPEG. i tried MPEG thinking it would be quicker, but the qualty was very poor. So I sugest to only load up in AVI (as in Pinnacle 7) for best results.

But i have to say Pinnacle 7 seems better than Pinnacle 8 - but then again I am only using the trial versions.

Pinniacle Studio 8 is nice but buggy, then again so was 7.

One addtional piece of advice, go to the File menu and select Delete Aux Files when you're done with a project. If you don't do this on a regular basis it gets very cranky.

Also plan to re-install at least once a month

When you've outgrown Pinnicle, try Sony's Vegas Video . Let's you do lot's of stuff you can't do in Pinniacle. Take's some learning but you can do multiple tracks, lot's of cool effects and stuff Pinnacle can't touch. I prefer it to Premiere.

Thanks VideoJ. I downloaded a trial version of Pinnacle Studio 8 and have noticed that it doesn't run very well on my computer. My computer is not that old and it's a graphics computer - it should kick ass on this computer but it's just not that stable.

The Video Vegas people (Sony) have a program that is very similiar to Vegas but aimed more for the novice and it's called ScreenBlast. It's a more simple version than Video Vegas with less of a learning curve. I downloaded the trial last night and ran it glitch free for about 4 hours with no problem. Seems much more stable than Pinnacle on my computer -

Thanks for your advice,

d*
