I have a couple plasmas. Save your $, get a nice DLP. They are also thin compared to a normal tv.

Shit people agree with me! If you are hanging it over a fireplace, lcd or plasma may be your only choice.

thats really a terrible spot for a tv

you should be seeing the center of your screen at eye level from your usual sitting position for the best viewing experience

but dont take my word for it, ask boneprone how he likes his plasma tv mounted over his fireplace

I have a 120" projection screen (HDTV). Do not think it is dlp though. Was top of the line 2.5 years ago though.

Pioneer produces the highest quality display of them all, be ready to spend 10k-12k but it is well worth it.

My screen is 100" with a rigid frame, it hangs on the wall like a picture, doesnt roll down

My projector is an Integra DLV-100, DLP, HDTV ready with 1024x768 native resolution. Ceiling mounted, with the signal running thru a viewsonic video processor that makes anything I connect to it, convert to 1024x768 progressive scan, that way the projector has a crystal clear image in its native resolution, with no artifacting or aliasing.

For sound... Nothing but the best, this is what we have.

Around $1000 US for this toy.

Amazing receiver, internet ready, multi zones, so many features and the sound quality is amazing.

Speakers, I like polk audio. For the price, nothing can touch them.

Forget about Plasma screens. This technology is on it's way out.

Get LCD screens..

LCD vs. Plasma Screen Displays: Technology Comparison

"What?s Next?

Extinction. You heard it here first. Unless plasma displays can miraculously adapt and compete in terms of longevity, brightness, (true) contrast ratio, power consumption and burn-in, the technology is on its way out. As LCD displays become cheaper, faster and more competitive, plasma will be seen for the stop-gap that it truly is."

LCD isn't touching plasma currently.. We have been on a mad hunt for them and the plasma screens always smoke LCD displays in all areas of quality.

LCD's are starting to get better, but are still trying to catch up to the current high end plasma screens.

You just have to be willing to drop 10k on a damn TV though

The main drawback I saw when I looked at DLP sets was that they were not able to offer the same viewing radius as Plasma. Move too far to the right or left and your screwed. If your primarily going to be looking at the screen straight on its a fantastic picture though.

The DLP technology is owned by Texas Instruments and is the primary reason that company's stock has doubled in the last 6 months.

The best plasma I know is the Sony.
For a sound system buy Mirage speaker + Yamaha amplifier.
With this you are in business

I just bought 2, a nice Sony HD and a cheaper one for a spare room. Got them hooked up to a surround sound system in my bedroom with one of those touchscreen remotes and a DVD changer and it's a nice toy to have. I love them and you can get a non HD one for under $2500 now if you don't care about having the ultimate quality and just want a plasma.

I'm planning to buy a plasma tv sometime in the next year or so. Will go good with my Denon AVR-3802 (paid $2600 Canadian when I first bought it) reciever.. Will probably upgrade to a Denon AVR-5803 later on http://www.denon.com (True high current recievers) Kicks some serious ass!

Right now I'm using Cerwin Vega speakers all around but later on will upgrade to more high end speakers.
