Who here has had Lasik??
I'm going to be going under the laser in about 2 weeks.. can hardly wait, my eyesight has been terrible since I was in elementary school.
The only thing that scares me is when I was in for my exam I was sitting next to a woman who was waiting to have the procedure redone in one eye because the flap they cut open didn't heal correctly... Anybody have lasik, and any complications?

I haven't had either done, but I am told that the Lasik procedure has more complications resulting from it then the older,PRK scrapping procedure. Lasik has a very quick recovery time, which is why it is most popular.
My husband is getting his done next month, and has decided to go with the PRK procedure route. This route does have a much longer recovery time, but there has been more success with it for those to return with 20/20 vision or better with less complicaitons. |

I had it done. My vision now is 20/15 which is better than 20/20. I had a little problem. My eyes got so dry, the flap on the right side wouldn't stay where it was supposed to, so they had to stitch it so it could heal right. That sucked, but the doc said out of 4,000 surgeries he did, this only happened to 6 people. My luck was not good at the time. I am happy I did it though.

They have a new procedure here and a New laser,
I do not know what it is called, but I am going back to see if I qualify. Last time they said I was borderline, and suggested I not get the surgery. I guess this new procedure they have, they chemically remove a few layers of the cornea, so it no longer needs to be cut... This is all what I have heard, I will find out more and let you know... |

I had a radial keratonomy done about 20 years ago (that was when they did it by hand, with a diamond blade) . . . . one of the best things I have ever done
I wonder how many of the people that have complications follow directions and use the drops they give you to keep the eye from healing too quickly |

I had Lasik about 5 years ago. I actually bled out of my eyes, but that was because there was scar tissue on my eyes from an RK that I had a few years earlier ...so that was expected & not really a problem. ...just gross. The surgery wasnt painful, just uncomfortable.
The RK I had a few years earlier worked for about a year, but then my eyesight got bad again. But Lasik was the best thing I ever did 'cuz my eyesight is perfect now. |

I had Lasik and had no pain afterwards. It takes about two minutes to do both eyes and your done. My doctor gave me antibiotic and regular eye drops to use. I think I need a touch up done which he said was possible because in the follow up exams I was only seeing at 20/40 and some text is still blurry but im seeing a lot better.

How much are the charging you? Not the $300 an eye they advertise, I bet. Heh.
I need to make an appointment. With my luck, I'll be in the 3% that go blind. |

I am hoping to get it done sometime this summer. My vision isn't bad, just enough near sighted to be annoying when I am driving.

I had Lasik done 6 years ago, best thing I've ever done. I have 20/20 vision, no complications it was guick, easy, and painless.
Also, I know more then a dozen people (family and friends) that have had it done and everyone has had great results. The only regret I have is that I did not do it sooner! |

I finally decided a week or so ago that I'm going to have it done. I'm going to a clinic that does Lasik and PRK, but also has the new VisX Waveprint System and Star s4 laser.
I have at least a 6 week wait for mine though. I've worn hard contacts for about 10 years of my life and gas permeable contacts for 16 years. I have to wear my glasses for 3 weeks plus another week for every decade I've worn my contacts (so 6 weeks total). Somewhere in that time I'll go for my consultation then go back after the 6 week for my eye exam prior to surgery. I'm going to a more expensive place several miles away rather than the assembly line cheap place nearby. The better place has a far better success rate and more surgeries performed.

Lasik is only for near-sighted folks, right?
Or have they finally come up with something for us far-sighted guys? |

Hey, I had one about 18 months ago, best thing I did in my life.
Don't be affraid, it may sound scarym but the procedure takes about 45 seconds... If you follow the instruction very well after for a couple of days, you'll be fine. Avoid at ALL COST, pet's fur, cigarette's smoke, and stay away from the computer glare for couple of days... ;) Your eyes will be sensitive to hard light for about 6 weeks, it is normal, and it will get better after that... I would do it again right now without any hesitation. 10 times this than 1 time to the dentist ... ![]() Good luck |
