If you're talking about "cool" and not tough....I'd have to go with Sean Connery, Roger Moore...they made a lot of women wet playing Bond.

If you're talking about real tough guys and not just actors...Steve McQueen hands down.

James Stewart is another original.

Bogart, Cooper, Stewart, and of course Cagney all broke the mold. Guys after them imitated them and so on and so on.

It's unusual to get a real original performer nowadays. Same with actresses. They're imitating people imitating Kathrine Hepburn, Audrie Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe.

That's why you've gotta go back to the classics to see the originals do their stuff. It's not to say there aren't great actors nowadays because there are. Yet acting is about convincing the audience the perfomance is real and not contrived. If I'm watching a movie or tv show or radio drama and I KNOW I'm watching a movie, tv show or radio drama then the acting failed.

Pacino is definitely king of cool.

Tons of other leading men that are bad-asses, but "cool" is a very specific thing.

Yeah but a lot of classics fail that test. Cagney was good for his era...so were all those guys...but there was a certain style to acting then that you look at it now some of it's quite cheesy.

I don't know if it was just the writing or what....but I love the classics however I see this now.

Not in every movie..but a lot.

I think Pacino is one of the greatest actors of all time but I don't think any king of cool would have a facelift or wear a toupee.

Cagney was cool and another one of my favorites and I gotta mention Edward G. Robinson.

Hmm don't think I have 1 favorite... Johnny Depp is damn great, for some reasons, I'd put Brad Pitt in that list too...

i think Edward Norton is a good fucking actor ... i love deniro but fucking unforgiveable to do a stupid ass movie like "Showtime" ... be a little fucking selective with the movies you do.

Edward norton very cool in people vs. larry flynt ... and in fight club, the score, i generally will watch a flick if he's in it.

then again brad pitt as the drunken gypsy boxer (what the fuck was the name of that movie) was an awesome performance ...

lots of good actors ... some just take STUPID fucking work.

Without a doubt, the best I have ever seen.

The old ones like bogart, wayne, etc. were too limited and basically just playing themselves without the versatility a true actor should have.

vin diesel has the name of his dungeons and dragons character "melcor" tattooed on his chest.. a drow elf or something. Thats pretty cool hahahah.
