Interesting Chargeback

While checking stats a few days ago, I noticed a cb. I immediately emailed my customer and I got this:

Hi.
It's me again.

I just got a notice from CCBill.com about this chargeback. I don't know what a chargeback is, and I'm not sure why my credit card company did it. If I owe you money for time that I was signed up for your site, I'll gladly pay it. To my knowledge, I was signed up for either one month or two, but not longer than that.

Thanks.

Hi again.
I just got off the phone with CCBill.com and I told them I want to pay you the money that's due. However, CCBill.com says they can't undo a chargeback. I asked them if they could send you the payment another way. "We're not a payment service," I was told.

So. I owe you $24.95 for one month's membership, and I'd like to pay you. Do you take PayPal? Can I send you a check? I had no idea my credit card company did this. I want to give you what I owe you. Help me out here, because CCBill.com won't.

To sum it up, cause I know there's alot of lazy asses's here... customer said he wasn't aware of the cb and wants to find a way to pay for the extra mth

Interesting! I know when I've done chargebacks with my credit cards, there was a form I was required to fill out. It might be worth your time to make sure a form WAS filled out by the customer. This could be a huge Pandora's Box if there isn't proof of the customer's charge back. Or it could just be a less than brilliant customer who forgot, lol!

The 3rd party billers can't do chargebacks. Only refunds. Only the credit card holder can do a chargeback.

The guy either did a chargeback not know it was for sweetcuties website or got caught with his hands in the cookie jar and now is willing to pay.

I got my first cb EVER last week for one of my sites ! I have had sites for 3 years. I emailed ccbill to ask why the customer did the chargeback and was told that they don't have that information.

It is amazing that people can just charge stuff back..When I have had to do a cb back , I had to give a written reason why to the credit card company before it was done.

ccbill could do nothing b/c chargebacks are done via the persons cc company.. not the biling company.... otherwise it would be a credit...

if you are only getting one... I don't see a reason to worry about it.. unless $24.95 is a bank breaker

Hmm.. maybe. Good point, never thought of that. There's so many people that let their wife handle the bills.

The problem here is not ONE chargeback, its that they let everybody charge back without any good reason . Soon everybody will know about it and chargeback.

No, it doesn't Trust me. Even as a little guy, you need a LOT of chargebacks over the course of a month. This only counts as one...which they will not penalize you for.

Yeah, in my experience doing a chargeback was a little more complicated then just calling the company and saying "I don't want to pay this." Usually you have to fill out shit and the cc company goes back and forth with the customer and the person selling the goods and it's like a fucking court battle, you have to provide paperwork and shit. Interesting.

Like someone already said, the guy charged back and someone 'educated' him as to what happens when a CCBill customer charges back. He is all nice and cozy now because he realizes he fucked up.

Still, pretty cool hes willing to pay back the funds to the website.

Lets get one thing straight. when someone dose a chargeback the merchant account gets notification before it goes through that gives the holder of that merchant account time to respond to Visa, Mastercard or even American Express. All these companies send out letters to the person requesting charge backs and a copy of their reply is sent to the merchant for his comments.
Why Ibill, CCbill and Epoch don't pass them on to webmasters or sponsors is a mystery to me especially as they charge up to 13.5% when your own merchant accounts if you have one charge 3 or 4% and include this service to all its accounts, including adult ?

The chargeback has already gone through before the merchant gets a notice of the chargeback. The notice is just to give the merchant a chance to dispute the chargeback. If the merchant can dispute the chargeback, the chargeback is taken off and the merchant gets the money back that was taken out (the chargeback is reversed).

3rd Party billers don't notify the webmasters, cause the webmasters don't own the merchant account. The 3rd party biller owns the merchant account. There is nothing the webmaster can do anyway. Unless you have the customers signature to authorize the charge on their credit card, there is nothing that can be done to reverse the chargeback.
