On my entry I am willing to make refinements to the skulled judge X character. The object on the judges bench (lower right) is a judges gavel, it would look better (and more recognizable) if drawn in being held in his hand.

I realized today looking over things again the gavels current at rest, shadowed, and on its side angle is a bit off. Any way it's a small point of note, but shows there is potential in terms of variation for a brand character like the Judge X of YouBeenX.com

My take was a judge would be a unique fitting and play on the sites Rating aspect.

The skull though does put Judge X on the dissentious side. The majority of logos here look like something I would have on a T Shirt to wear while golfing. Judge X however is best suited to an appearance on a Baby-T worn by some hot chic in a club. etc.

It was not clear from your original post which demographic your trying to reach with your sites branding. I find it doubtful your site is aimed at +40 singles heh, so the design is aimed at Generation X & Y.

A final point, the design is also optimized for and available as an Avalon resource defined in Xaml. Pre-ready for use on the next wave of Microsoft Windows, on the chance you might do something with YouBeenX.com like what Amazon has done with it's site:

well if you're gonna redo parts of your logo you should definitely make note to redo the skull.. it looks like the skull of a retarded guy.

and -- people who aren't designers have a hard time making that creative leap to really "know" what it WOULD look like if you changed it. so instead of telling them you can change it, make the change and post another version.

You guys are right, I apologize for only running the contest for only a short period of time. Let's extend this baby a few more days...and since this contest is running a bit longer, I will now choose a 1st place, 2nd and 3rd too. Contest will end Thursday Night :) There are some really nice talents on GFY, its gonna be a hell of a time choosing a winner.

glad that you finally uttered a word.
I think I wasn't the only one waiting since the contest was supposed to stop hours ago.

If I have a one day deadline I am able to work with that. If I have a few days time I can work with that too, but the results will be different...

As you have skipped the deadline I guess you weren't pleased with the results so far. If this is the case try next time to give an even more specific design brief so that one can work up on that.

Further you shouldn´t expect that out of thin air anyone will match your expectations right on top. Normaly this is a step by step process that needs a little dedication from both sides the designer and the client.

I think there are some serious entries so far that one could work out further and tweak them a little. If You look at my scetch you will see that the character for Dr.X could be easily changed as well as the colour.
Same is true for some other entries as well. But I for one will not spend further time on "guessing what´s hot".

Here is my UNSOLICITED opinion on your entry in one word: Boring.

It looks like you have been successful at two things. Making simple look awful, and locking Rice_Master into a font and a single shape.

What makes your entry stand out in the never-ending sea of "basic" company logos? Maybe put it on a 'retarded guy'. That may draw some attention to it.

Bottom line, Thank you for your feedback but I did not approach you for an opinion. I gained nothing from your comment as I already sought feedback earlier from elsewhere..."yours looks creepy a bit with the skull guy so it looks cool enough to wear" Is good enough for me.

The only person who should be judging and tossing out comments about the entries is Rice_Master. It's his contest, and his $500.

My opinion, your opinion, and the opinion's of anyone else on any of the entries in this thread are nothing but background noise.

I wouldn't jump the gun and write every logo contribution off as being in the losing pile.

There are a ton of really, really, really great entires that have been posted. Starting right off the bat with snipah7's. I think Rice_Master might have underestimated the amount of talent on GFY.

Maybe they guy is putting together a focus group or something to help judge.

You are right though, logo design is a step by step process that needs client input from the concepts to the final render. We really are all grasping at straws.

I guess thats where luck comes into play. :/ At any rate the contests here are definitely fun to participate in.

I think I can speak for practically everyone here that your logo will NOT win.

It's big as hell, it isn't appealing to the slightest, and the Judge Skull looks like he was the skull of someone severely disfigured.

i don't want to get into a pissing match, i saw you passing judgement on others and thought I'd speak for them, although I may have done it a bit harsch with the retarded skull remark.

your ideas seem logical, although i don't agree with you on my logo. i like to think of it as simple (which is best), yet style'ish.

keep tryin though, it just seems as though you need to develop your design skill to match your ego. it will probably take a couple years.. but you'll get there.

Here's a little something that i put together that actually portrays something about a DATING site that catches the eye of a person and tells them its a dating site and not cartoons, etc.

"Just an update on img5. This server has been having issues over the last few weeks. The hard disk compleletely crashed last night. The server is being re-imaged and new drives put in. Not sure when this will be done, as the data copy is very slow. I'm sorry to those of you that this has effected. Unfortunately technology isn't perfect.

I wish the competition starters would give us a tiny hint of what they liked so far so we would have some inkling of what to spend more time on or what not to spend time on.

I can't design for shit, but I still like to try. I like to just submit my entry and usually just keep out of the thread. I don't think it helps anyone's cause to criticize anyone else.

I feel the same way. This thread is for contest submissions. It is not a fucking art gallery. The only postings should be just that...submissions.

This thread is about Rice_Master finding a design he likes, not feeling sorry for people who aren't very good.

I realize being the GFY logo saint must be a Zen-like moment for you, but it was just a flat remark I made. One which you reacted to with the composure of a drag queen getting his wig yanked off.

You missed the point. I would wear most of these logos while out golfing. I did not say it was a bad thing. A skull would likely get one kicked out of a golf club.
