"As part of his 2004-05 budget, Pataki has proposed making handgun permits, currently issued for life, renewable every five years, while tacking on other new fees. The plan has received little support in the Legislature.

If approved, Pataki's plan could raise as much as $11.3 million a year, according to the governor's budget office. The plan is aimed at helping the state close a budget deficit of $4 billion to $5 billion.

Pataki proposed charging $100 every five years for the permit, plus $25 for each additional handgun someone with a permit wants to use.

That doesn't include what a county would charge for handling the permitting process.

Pataki has proposed letting counties charge whatever they want for dealing with that responsibility. "

If this doesn't piss me off to the height of pissedoffedivity, they're gonna let this shit happen to the honest gun owners so they can pay the debts caused by illegal motherfuckers in the first place???

This is punishing the law abiding citizen for the deeds of the unlawful. It's another way of fucking over us for them.

Another Republican governor trying to find a way to deal with Bush's trashing of the U.S. economy. Most states are hurting badly since Bush took office and they need to find some income fast.

Yet many "conservatives" will still vote for Bush in November.

This is something else. My family has been fightin' wars for New York 100 years BEFORE there was a New York. I've still got flintlocks from 250 years ago that still work!

Now all of a sudden we're supposed to kick out more dough because they can't secure the borders but sure as shit can send a damned SWAT team out if you miss a credit card bill?
