My bro have had Mercedes 280SE AMG built 1977.
This mofo was as perfect as new!
Absolutely awesome car! I instantly fell in love with Mercedes after that. There are cars, and there is a Mercedes!

I have an Audi, cant go wrong with German tech.! But if you looking for an all wheeler, take a look at the 2004 Infinity's. The have finally incorperated AWD, and I hear its a very advanced system. G35 AWD makes for a sweet winter car.

I have a SLK 230. Probably will upgrade to a SL 55 as my next car. I know this guy who bought a 1984 SL convertible and totally redid it like guys do the old school Chevys with a tight new paint job and 20 inch rims. It's very unique.

well, the inline 6 cyl engine is pretty much bulletproof. lotsa torque, but mostly maintenance free if you change oil every 3K.

MB trannies are a little clunky in the ones i've owned.

can't talk about the older cars, but i've got a '97 320S which has the same basic engine, and years ago had a '75 280. both big sedans and in both cars the engine purrs like a kitten.

watch out for rust in the older cars.

I bought a 97 SL600 new and it's been in the shop a ton of times sine the warranty ran out.
Two driveshafts $3000 each
oil leak from the valve cover $900
leveling sensor $700
Water pump $1800
front hydraulic shock $1200
hydraulic pump $600
That's what I remember off the top of my head.

If you can't afford to fix it, you can't afford to own it!

Still, I'll buy a SL65 as soon as they're available here.

Like what? Had an RX300 then went to an LX470, parents drive the new RX330, had no problems with either of mine or theirs. Traded the LX470 in this week though, wanted a truck again so I went to a Nissan Titan. Shame Nissan and Toyota won't make trucks in their "upper" lines I'd be all over that.
