:mad Guys that sell thumb gallery spots, ...or NOT REALLY.

I've bought quite a few as tests this week.

I bought the spot!!! Why do they set the trade redirects to 50-75%?
Are they so stupid they don't know they sold "the spot" or
are they just dishonest and it's really worth the money to
stay with the established big boys via CyberCat? (or others, I
forget the names of, plug yourselves during the discussion)

Opinions and rants lets hear em. I enjoyed Sleazy's lecture last
year about all TGPs going paid for placement (Webmaster
Summit TO), but did the industry jump the gun?

Nope didn't buy from you.

If it was stated up front I won't have a problem with it.

I'm selling 'Gallery Clicks'. It is traffic right from top listings on some of the big TGPs.

If any of you guys with high traffic TGPs wanted to sell me some spots for this, please hit me up on ICQ:143702021. I'm always looking.

To clarify...

I purchased 10 "spots" this week, all were still put through
the trade scripts. Even as "sold" spots.

If I'm sold a spot with 100k clicks, and you deliver 50-68k of the
clicks and SKIM the rest, ...didn't you just steal from your client?
Not just sour grapes on sales, I did well. I went and looked at the
redirect pass percentages of each placement.

(integrated aside since he says actually TELLS people before hand
he's swiping spot clicks. ...I don't even know what TGPs he runs.)

This is why I asked you opinion...

*IF* I'm sold a spot and not told of a skim, false advertising, yes?

Spot is a spot, not 50-XX% of a spot unless otherwise told?

I have to agree that it is foolish that you are paying for his trades. But I think it's a bitch to do it around the script....

hey bud, we sell advertising on the biggest thumb tgp sites in the world. (Madthumbs, teeniefiles, Sublimepie, Cowlist)

I am not sure what we have available right this moment as we are usually sold out for these sites. But we could add you to our waiting list. Sorry you didn't get what you paid for.

You would think the sold gallery spots on the thumb sites were non-skimmed. If they state that the spot is skimmed, but give an estimate of the traffic sent daily, then that is cool. But no mention of skim, I'd be thinking the spot is mine, all mine.

I've got to ICQ you about the possible pre-party for WS TO
this summer anyways, I'll hit you up for a phone number
tomorrow. I was in the meeting yesterday when .Sex Marc
asked about the club and the mini bus for shuttling, looks like
the 5Gs is almost firm. (Club owner only wants to know that
webmasters drink beyond the 2-3 plus free buffet before they
leave )

I don't really think it matters, the only thing that matters is what did you end up paying per 1K of traffic and how well did the traffic convert.

If a guy sells a spot for $10 and skims 50%, or sells a spot for $20 and doesn't skim it at all....its still the same damn price for a certain amount of traffic.

We skim off of our paid spots, because if we didn't, we wouldn't have the traffic to sell to begin with.

I send 2 mil uniques off of my mainpage .. that's actual gallery clicks not including the clicks that go to trades. You're paying for the gallery spot & traffic on my site(s) .. and in my opinion the defenition of the gallery spot includes the fact that is used as a trading tool. That's the bottom line. We sell 24 of the 31 spots .. keep the other 7 for ourselves and a few friends. If we made every spot non-skim, there would be no traffic there to sell, and THEN everyone would bitch about no traffic.

We have every spot sold out on all of our sites, we have a huge waiting list, and no one ever complains about it, so basically the amount of traffic they do get is suitable and makes them happy.

Potential buyers bitch about it, but our 8 month old renewing customers have never peeped.

Just my opinion, and the way we do business. Oh and .. it's no where near 50-70% .. our customers get like 90% of the clicks, and most surfers know that the way my script works, if they click one more time they get to the gallery, so we are really not 'stealing' anything to begin with.

Later :]
