I have a Sony DUU1621 DVD-ROM drive and all of the sudden the dvd-rom light wont go off, its solid green. also, the tray will not open. i can force it open with a paperclip but it wont open or close on its own. I have restarted the computer a few times but no dice. I am running win xp pro. There is no disk in the drive. I know you're not a tech support forum but searching google didnt get me too far and since you are all brilliant genius', I figure one or two of you may know.

And posting on any other forum on the web takes like a week to get a response from.

weird for sure. Does the drive still show up in My Computer? Try replacing the IDE cable?

Couldn't find anything for a DUU1621. Are you sure its not a DDU1621? If so, here is the support page for it: http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/ddu1621_dwn.htm - still looking. Sounds like the drive is stuck in a constant seek/read.
