What a depressing thread. Not that I ever doubted that there were this many selfish, materialistic people on GFY, but it just smarts to have it slammed right in your face.

Reasons:

1. If you are on your death bed and a doctor is going to make a shitload on a transplant, who's to say they won't try as hard to save your life?

2. The world is already over populated!

3. What if you get stuck in some after life waiting room until all of your body dies?

4. Review number 1.

They can take whatever they can make use of when I'm gone and then let students practice on what's left.

I think it's cool that the majority are donors. That could be the greatest gift someone will ever receive. I just can't take that risk of them not trying as hard to save me if they could save someone with better insurance with my parts.

Not to insinuate I concur, but I do find it distasteful that a person gives their organs for free and then the hospital makes a ton of money by charging the recipient for them. Some compensation should be paid to the heirs or the organs should be free for the recipient as well. Plus, I really don't like the idea of the doctor who is in charge of saving my life being financially compensated if he fails.

I would definitely donate my organs but I don't want my body used for studies, they can take all they from inside but I would want my body left whole (well as whole as it can be with everything out it). The thought that you can save someone's life by donating an organ when you have no use for it anymore is warming. I might not be able to save a life when I'm alive but hopefully I can when I'm dead.

Let me tell you something, if you fill out one of those donor cards, and god forbid, you get into a bad accident and lapse into a coma, those motherfuckers will hack you up for parts as fast as possible.

I have designated my orgons for donation only if there is recipient waiting for a specific body part.

I do not wish to be disected and my orgons stored for blackmarket use or to the highest bidder. My goal in orgon donation is to share with someone with a need to better their life vs. being used by an organization or corporation that is in the orgon for profit industry.

in the jewish rel you are not suposed to remove anything from a body after death...we do not even get imbombed..you are not even suposed to be burried in a jewish cemetary if you have a tattoo(of course written prior to the holocust this law is never inforced)..however these rules were written in acient times prior to modern medicine i think g-d would understand that the benefits outway all else

I absolutely will. I had a relative on the other side, she needed an organ. I am so thankful one was given to her.

I was watching Extreme Make-Over last week (even though this wasn't an organ) and there was a guy who had long ass hair. He cut his hair and a little girl who was balding prematurely was given long beautiful hair. You should have seen the look on her face. It was inspiring.

I had an ex who used to give me that same excuse until he actually donated for Sept 11th. He realized its not that bad. But I totally understand, lots of people have fears of needles.

Since I'm single and all I figured Valentine's Day would be a good day to donate. :thumbsup
