Kazaa Lite is dying

So I'm looking for a new non-spyware p2p program. Any suggestions?

(the reason it's dying is that Kazaa is implementing features which shut other programs out from the network, and kazaa lite could have created it's own p2p network had it not been for the makers setting the option of "do not function as a supernode" as the default)

Kazaa Lite is in fact dying. It'll take a while before you'll really start to notice it though. Could be a few years before it becomes unusable.

punkworld is right, Kazaa Lite IS dying but it will take some time. The are trying to block Kazaa Lite users from Kazaa (or something like that, I read it in some magazine)

Yup. And Kazaa Lite could easily have created it's own popular network, but the default of users not functioning as supernodes prevents that from happening.

It seems most of the people in this thread don't quite comprehend it though.

Bittorrent is becoming the number one, but you can't share files forever and they are only available when someone is seeding them instead of a huge network of everyone sharing everything they have

Sounds like it wouldn't be particularly good for those hard to find files (= punk mp3s).

Bit torrent is the way.

it's monitored fairly well, and the descriptions are 99% accurate.
so if it says Cabin Feaver you do not get Kangaroo Jack for the 50th time.

One thing I like that may turn some off is that things seem to be bigger, and by that I mean you don't usually find the Song your looking for but rather the entire album. I prefer it that way.

Bit torrent suffers from the same problems of any network that uses centralized servers (in any way), in this case they call them Trackers don't they ? In any event, peeps are always moaning about them closing down, and as Bittorrent becomes more popular (it is fast), those problems will grow and grow. Plus, the clients only works on one network. The new generation of clients hook up to 3 or more different P2P networks. The next generation will hook upto multiple networks *and* download the same file from all of them at the same time. Not here yet, but it's coming.

Bittorrent is retrograde technology. A dead end. Love it while you can.

I use http://www.shareaza.com/ they claim no spyware, can''t say I've noticed it using any either. You can run torrents through it and it connects up with the Gnutella, edonkey and Bearshare networks.

The makers of Kazaa lite can easily fix this by resetting their default.

Kazaa Lite isn't being developed anymore. They got shut down. Hence the new version being called "Resurrection"... it pretty much lacks a centralized distribution though.

Dying, not dead.
But the status of the entire fasttrack network isn't really an indication of what you can actually download. Even less so with you not being able to download from the regular Kazaa users.

You can say a lot of things are dying but not dead. We are, for example.

It's been dying since the day it was born.

For at least a year now even obscure files put me 60, 70, 80 or more in the queue line on WinMX. The downloads may be fast once they start but I never wait the hour or more it would take to start transferring because I hop on Kazaa Lite and download within a couple of minutes. If Kazaa shuts out Kazaa Lite and lawsuits shut down Kazaa it will make about as much difference in internet file sharing as the shutdown of the original Napster. In fact if the news & media run with it like they did Napster we could be on the horizon of the greatest file sharing availability ever.

I've tried eMule (a varient). Used it to DL a movie no longer available commercially and was scarce on Kazaa. If you are going to be downloading big files and are able to leave the system running a good long time it's probably a better program for those type of files. For smaller stuff Kazaa Lite still beats it for speed and results.
