Keto diets (such as Atkins) where your body goes into ketosis (burning fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates) is a good diet to follow if you avoid eating foods high in saturated fat.

If your diet is high in Omega 3's, EFA's, and healthy meats such as Tuna, Turkey, Salmon, etc., you will be OK.

Dr. Atkins himself was not a thin guy. I dont know why people are following this diet.

but Dr Phil is kind of heavy looking and I dont know why people are buying his stuff either.

WHAT THE HELL!

Its no big deal, it doesnt directly affect you, they haven`t tgaken off your favorite food akin to vodka.

A few people around me have lost over 10 pounds in their first controlled week. Don`t destroy it unless it affects you.

I supposed you knew the good doctor intimately to be able to make that statement?

And wtf is "THIN"? We're talking about people being in shape..and thin is not necessarily in shape.

Weird how people just keep pulling stuff out of their ass to make a lame argument.

An excuse often used by overweight people with no willpower.

It is THIS SIMPLE: if your calorie intake is greater than the calories you expend, you'll put on weight. If your calorie intake is less than you expend, you'll lose weight.

The Atkins diet works because it contains very high amounts of protein. Excessive protein acts as an appetite suppressant - you don't feel hungry so you eat less...

This is a throw back to the 60s and 70s when ATkins was the thing.

Low carb in these resturants are high fat.

Weight watchers is a solid program and they offer a lower carb version as well as a vegetarian version. But it was the rage in hollywood for about 30 seconds.

I'm waiting for Scarsdale diet to start up again, that's very retro.

Bulimia will be making a huge resurgance in honor of the 1980s.

I've been noticing it too. Another fad diet. Despite the constant bombardment of "fat free" products the past 10 years, the nation did not get healthier. Now, it will be the same with Atkins. People want easy cures. They want to take a magic pill and have an easy time of it. There is an easy way already. Eat less calories than your body consumes in a day to lose weight.

Nothing is better than a well-rounded diet combined with exercise and strength training. A good mixture of carbs is good.
I lost 50 pounds this year while consuming 200g of carbs a day.

Well, if you're 200 pounds consuming 3000 calories a day (all that damned soda and beer) you better work on your input.

An aerobic session might increase your calories consumed by, say, 250 calories. It's just as easy to not drink that 20 oz. soda. Easier, really.

It's not all that healthy but a Big Mac and small fry with a diet soda is only 800 calories. Obese guys could eat that for lunch and dinner with a bowl of cereal for breakfast and still lose weight.

It's all the extra food and high calorie sodas in between meals that really gets most people. Nearly any candy bar is 350 or more calories. The thing about obese people is they do things like eat a whole bag of chips or cookies.

Some people think they are eating "healthy" and will lose weight but they never will. They are getting way too many calories and not considering all the sources. Take rice, for example. Doesn't seem particularly dangerous. Take a look at a bag of Uncle Ben's 90 second rice in the supermarket. Same calories as a medium fry from McD's.
