At ifriends cam site itself, there is no mention of being charged anything else for a free memebrship besides the validation fee which is just an authorization that gets refunded. Now months later I get hit for $5.95 out of the blue

I think he means iFriends. I've heard of others in the past getting charged for their gold member status or whatever it is w/o notice or ever accepting it.

when you sign up for ifriends... you HAVE TO READ ALL THE FINE PRINT! It already has the gold membership checked and most people overlook this and don't read.

Ive been ripped off a hell of alot more with regular paysites overcharging for $29.95 a month than a measely $1.99 and $5.95..

tell you what, why not call ifriends and ask them to remove the charges... I am sure they will oblige .

I'll throw this in. We caught some site hosting our exclusive content and design, with all links going to ifriends. I viewed the page source (the software they used to yank our site still left them hotlinking some gifs), and didn't see any revshare referrer info with the links to ifriends.

I emailed ifriends about this asking that they shutoff the revshare account (I was giving them some benefit of the doubt), never heard back.

The 5.95 per month is most likely for the VIP status package (that what it was called the last time I was in the member area). Its like a cross sell when you sign up. The box is usualy ticked and if you don't read carefuly your signed up for it whether you like it or not.

Just call them and ask them to cancel the VIP membership status.

Actually they just got tricky. They no longer have a free monthly membership anymore unless you follow some funky rules. Before you would join and they would charge 1.00 and credit you 1.00 and that was it. Unless you opted to become a VIP member at 5.95 which gave you some perks and you would be billed 5.95 each month.

Then they added in those so call fan clubs and paid phone sex.

Well now they no longer have the 1.00 for lifetime membership. They have the free elite membership and the paid elite membership. They are basicly 100% the same but you must qualify to get the free membership version.

In order to qualify you must spend 60 minutes in paid video (I think thats the right number) per month, or you must rate 50 or something archive photos/videos per month. Naturally most will never read this but yes you can still get it for "free" so they are not misusing the word.

The sheer genius of ifriends is something to behold though. They have some 1500+ die hard loyal video chathosts who swear by them and would never leave doing one on one video 24/7. These misguided performers actually think ifriends cares much about the 1 on 1 video sales which they were "king" of and assume that ifriends needs them since they bring in all the income. Naturally ifriends gives these hosts more "extra" features that they "think" will help them boost 1 on 1 sales and retain regulars.

Such wonderfull features as video archives, picture archives, the ability to upload their own full sized photos and videos into the archives, and now with elite moments, archive pictures taken every 2 minutes. Many other "features" I will not go into. Of course these performers jump all over these "features" and use them left and right.

The genius is thus. Ifriends gets a monthly fee from all the members who have unlimited access to all the archives, the free to private video, the uploaded video ect. Then they have a pre-built in 1 on 1 upsale everywhere which just boosts their bottom line. So in effect they have took the live cam site and turned it into the biggest membership site there is that is updated every second of the day with fresh unique exclusive content that doesnt cost them a fucking cent.

It just sounds like you clicked some box for a cross-sell/up-sell package, Brent. Call or email and I am sure they will give your money back. No one stays under 1% for as long as they have by screwing surfers.
