I loved visiting there. Lots of great sights and lots of great eats!

Well I heard that things got cleaner, less drugs and homeless people. The problem is that in order to get downtown, you have to drive through the worst part of Vancouver. Can be a scary place, ah yes, in the old times we used to go film hookers *cough* (too much time on our hands).

Melbourne is very cool, great shopping, restaraunts, beaches and transport and road system, formula 1 GP and still very easy to make money too :thumbsup

ummm.....last time I checked, there were 6 ways to get to downtown Vancouver and only 1 of them is through the bad area of the city.

Yea in Canada the fastest growing place economically is Ottawa, After its Van and after comes toronto . Real estate in ottawa and vanc is booming right now :)

My people bough a house here 2 years ago and now they got an offer for over 35 % more that it cost them .

I always had to drive through the bad part, so thats the only part I know :)

Yaletown,Beach ave and false creek are the best downtown but the most expensive. Gotta pay for the views and accessabilty.

that kinda coin would get you a sub penthouse near/on one of the best beaches in the world right here!

to be quite honest.. if i had to live in any city.. i would probably choose melbourne. But I don't see myself living in a city any time soon.

Yeah... t'is true. I am going to love living on Beach Ave cause there's no one out my window.... I gotta look straight down to see the street, then I see beach, then ocean and mountains off in the distance (and to the side) :thumbsup

I love Vancouver, if I could talk the woman into it, I'd live there part of the year...

Wait until you see the sunsets from your balcony over English Bay. They blow me away in summer. Its like a nighly light show that makes you ooh and awe out loud.

I love the island too.
Surrounded by mountains, water everywhere. I live 2 minutes from the beach.
Everytime I am in the Fraser Valley I just cringe at how there is no ocean breeze.

I don't know actual stats, but I suspect that it has just as much sunlight per annum as most coastal cities in NA. When you factor in the considerations, like its moderate climate (no snow in the city yet sking nearby and annual golf...,), little humidity and no bugs/mosquitos, clean air quality, sun that doesn't set until 10PM in summer... on balance, the rain is a reasonable trade-off to deal with.

You think of writing a travelers guide? Damn that little speech got me wanting to visit vancouver like nothing before. ;)

I also defy anyone to show me a city in the world of Vancouver's size that can even approximate the amount of nature in and around it and amenities to experience it. Nothing can touch us. I went on a sea-kayak trip on the west coast of Vancouver Island where orca's were coming up to my kayak. To think that we have coyotes across the street from me walking on the seawall and I am downtown or my friend in North Van has grizzley bears and mountain lions in her backyard in a cosmopolitan city is amazing. I just saw pics of the largest concentration of bald eagles in the world just a short drive towards Whistler. You don't have to go far to experience what we have whereas in most cities I have visited, its a trek to go windsurfing, mountain climbing, white water rafting...

what are the best 4-year colleges in the vancouver area? (public/state run colleges)

I love travel and reading about travel destinations...I love the message boards on LonelyPlanet.com and hearing others experiences. I was supposed to go last fall to Spain, Portugal. Morocco and Algeria but that didn't happen. My last big trip was almost 3 months of back-packing to Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Burma, Malasyia a couple of years ago.

i'm really having trouble deciding what area i should focus in on.

There's not as much rain as all the hype. Like hershie said, there's no more rain than any other coastal city. And besides, with Whistler, Blackcomb and other ski resorts about 45 mins away..... I'm quite happy to have rain instead of snow while I'm driving around the city :winkwink:

That's the two big universities. There are tons of colleges of course, Vancouver Community College, BCIT, Douglas, Langara, Capilano, Vancouver Film School and tons more.

Spend a day walking around, you'll figure out what you like best really quick :)
