My son is recording his CD this weekend

Just wanted to share with you all that my son and his band will be recording their first demo CD this Sunday! I am so excited. The boys have waited months practicing and fine tuning and making their music tight!

I wish they were signed

Actually the boys in the band are all splitting it 4 ways.
They have played gigs and earned money that way.

I'm just laughing because my friends have interest from several big record labels and they are in fact emo. One of the bands they play with from time to time just signed a 1.4 million $$$ deal and they are .......emo. Ah well.

The only reason I have not bought him a domain name yet is because the band is going to change their name shortly.

I'm just laughing because my friends have interest from several big record labels and they are in fact emo. One of the bands they play with from time to time just signed a 1.4 million $$$ deal and they are .......emo. Ah well.
As a matter of fact, because they signed to a major they can't be emo.

Emo is a classification for a musicstyle that has it's roots in hardcore/punk. And hardcore/punk is known for the fact it's a countermovement against mainstream. So basically no band can claim to be "emo" and in such way related to hardcore and sign to a major.

About the money thing... Talking about alternative music and emo in specific. There are few bands who got signed by majors, that 1.4 million $$$ thing could be Coheed and Cambria who recently signed to Columbia. But I doubt if they'll get such an amount though.
But there isn't really a future for those bands. Indie and emo is at the moment a big thing, but it's just a trend and those bands won't get a strong fanbase that will make 'em permanently big enough to live from.
There's a big group who's into this kind of music, but most of these kids are more involved in the scene and as told above, signing to a major isn't really something that's supported there and most of them rather enjoy all other who play this music but who stick to independent recordlabels and sell their cds for much cheaper than to support the "sellouts".

And besides that, the mainstream music industry is much more interested in short hip hit selling concepts than long lasting bands. Out of sooo many bands, just a few will get big enough to make enough money to live through life.

And for the record, I work for an idenpendent record label (the biggest hardcore/punk label of Europe), play in a "signed" band myself and have tons of friends active in the biz, operating both in the underground scene as in the mainstream.

Starting making music for money isn't a smart choice.

And Jasmine! Great to see you support your kids, I always had parents supporting my "musical creativity" and making music is one of the greatest things to do.
