Buying a laptop. What brand should I buy?

I'm gonna buy a laptop, I think its very handy to have one, for going to conventions and on holiday and just for general laziness.

What you all got and what do you recommend I get?

I've been looking at Dell. They have some very good machines.

Spam me please!

Just My two cents:
I do not recommend Toshiba notebooks..Especially Satellite version.
1) Problems with sleep mode.
2) Problems with battery.
3) Conflicts with build-in PowerManagement option WinXP.

I hate Toshibe laptops!!!!

I ordered this notebook last week, can't wait until it arrives...
How do you like it so far?

Please don't buy a Dell, problems so far with a few Dell notebooks:
1. Dead batteries after few months
2. Unstable
3. Black screens
4. Dead power supply
5. Sudden reboots.
Repair cost for the rebooting Dell: $400

Toshiba? Try to stay away. In Dec of 2002 I bought a Toshiba Satilite Pro 6100(pro my ass, lol). To make a long story short, in a year and 2 months it blew the harddrive TWICE, mother board and power supply. I use the laptop about 3 hours daily.

Last week I orderd an IBM think pad R40(r50 US model), and it cost me the same price as the Toshiba, not to mention the IBM is coming with Centrino.

That is the ONLY downside....battery life is about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Everything else about it works really really well.

If you want the best on the market get an Apple WPowerbook G4. If you need Windows buy a Dell with their premium service. Either way you will have the best of the breed.

He does? Hmm could be interesting.

I had a look at some Dell machines but after reading this thread it seems the only one no one has said sucks is the Sony one. Everyone else has something bad to say on the other machines.

I just picked up a japan import. They make these strictly for the japan market and most never make it to production in the US. They are sooo much better than the laptops here. The keyboard has japanese characters so they have to put stickers on them. But outside of that, there is no difference.

If you want long battery life you should go for a machine with Intel Centrino.
And if you want a reliable machine you should probably consider an IBM.

I have the T40p which I am very happy with. Almost 5 hours battery life.
