Email VIRUS with NO attachment?

I've been getting some mail coming in where Norton pops up with the usual warning message that it has been quarantined. Whats strange is that some of the emails have no attachments. Whats up with that, are the viruses inbeded in the email body? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but Im not very technical.

thx

So basically, If someone does not have any anti-virus they could still get infected WITHOUT opening an attachment?

i thought norton automaticaly quarantines the virus attachement and then deletes it for you, never giving you the chance to actually see the attachement?

for the imbedded virus infected emails this seems to work for me!

Check the size of the email! I have noticed that the infected viruses all are the same size (around 32k). If I get a large size email, with no attachments, from someone I don't know... I DO NOT OPEN IT!

Also, the email headings appear to give some clue as to if it is a virus, or not.

If you are using outlook just turn the preview pane off under View, then Layout.

Then when you receive a message just right click on it and check the properties then view the message source code. Easy to see what's in there that way and there is no way to get infected.

I don't even run antivirus software, just doing that (and keeping current on windows update) keeps me fairly safe.
