Same-sex marriage

just read it on http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/02/04/ga...age/index.html

Quote:
Massachusetts' highest court reiterated Wednesday that only full marriage rights for gay couples, not civil unions, would be constitutional
see, if you follow the constitution, it's legal

Quote:
The ruling sets the stage for Massachusetts to likely become the first state in the nation to allow same-sex marriages
if it becomes possible in Massachusetts

after the state of the union speach, this is a welcome idea about freedom and equality that comes out of the States

good stuff. theres absolutely no reason why committed gay couples shouldn't have access to the federal benefits of marriage. If Britney can for 24hrs then it'd be pretty sad if they couldn't.

It's about time this legislation moved forward. Didn't that idiot Bush speak out against gay marriage in his State Of The Union speech. What makes a gay couple any different than a straight couple is what I'd really like to know. Why aren't gay couples already allowed to get married.

I think if you are living in a free country you should be allowed to get married to your same sex

Because Britney is not a lesbian but probably bi so she can. Gay people and lesbians shouldn't everywhere. The marriage is the union between a man and a woman not for same-sex as written everywhere. Even the pope does not want same-sex marriage.

I vote to make the pope-quote to be this year's most stupid remark

the point is that in the law it doesn't state man-woman, only in the vatican's rules, but hell who still listens to them. That's why I say liberty AND equality for all.

Ever wondered why catholicism isn't the biggest branch of christianity in the US, it's biggest in the rest of the world, not in the US, why? Because a lot of the settlers fled to the new world to get out under the rule of the Vatican and catholicism. People fled Europe from the rule of the Vatican and the monarch that ruled Europe (and not socialism like one stupid person once said on this board)

You are right ... It is part of that " born again christian" shit....

That a religion doesn;t want to recognize " same sex marriage", I can accept that.

But legal civil union are a must. As an example, if your 10 year partner is hospitalized, you have no say in treatment or any other decision. You can even be barred from visiting.

And if I have to pay 2 pensions , why shouldn't gay have the same privilege...

Ohio Gov. Bob Taft, who received thousands of phone calls, letters, and e-mails for and against a far-reaching "super" defense of marriage act , plans to sign a bill enacting the ban.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Bill Seitz, a Cincinnati Republican, puts into law that same-sex marriages would be "against the strong public policy of the state." The bill also prohibits state employees from getting marital benefits spelled out in state law for their unmarried partners, whether gay or straight. Thirty-seven states have passed laws recognizing only marriages between men and women. Gay rights groups consider Ohio's legislation particularly restrictive because of the additional benefits ban.

How many times is the US going to have to have civil rights movements before it catches on, MALE RIGHT CORPORATE OPRESSION will not be stomached, not by free thinking human beings

Sure George Bush needed to free the people of Iraq because of the unjust rule of Saddam Hussien. Yet he wants to commit even more attrocities to his own people by denying them basic human rights.

I did not realize the constitution was to be written for hetero's only!

stupid reasoning, I mean public policy can change over night. I mean, people adopt rules that are basically just and rightious very fast. You saw it over too, after a year now you've got grandma's commenting in the news that it's so old fashioned not to let gays marry.

You have to start out of the ideas on which the West was based, was gay marriage an issue in 1789? No, but would the equality be in line with the ideas of the French Revolution? Yes!

Forget about religions to make up the right choices, "Liberty, Equality & Brotherhood" are the only guidelines you'll ever need + don't do things that really hurt people intentionally (between certain boundaries of course)
