Does anyone know any software the strips away the singer's voice and leaves the track as it is. Just allowing you to paste the singers vocals onto another track. I've been experiencing w/ remixes and its cool way to stir up some creativity. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

not effectively.

get on kazaa or one of those type programs, or hit usenet and search for the song title acapella

like... madonna don't tell me acapella

that's how I always get them.

Thanks TH, I've used Kazaa a couple of times for this and its probably the only real solution out there. I hate how the vocals our into layers, right/left speakers.

There are a lot of programs out there that do a pretty good job
of largely muting the voice. They work by looking at what sounds
are present in both right and left channels.
Taking the voice from one track and putting it in another where it
still sounds good is going to be a lot harder than just muting that voice.
I think that the only way you're going to put the voice on another track
and have it sounds clean it to do it more or less manually,
using the various filters in a pro style studio - either a software stiduio set up or hard ware.

I know about this because I DJ as a hobby and write Linux software
for a living, so I help write the DJ software for Linux.

Isolating vocal frequencies is a bitch, especially if the song is already mixed. There is no perfectly clean way to do this once it is mixed down, since there are so many frequency variations in a person's voice...the singer in my band has a range from 300hz to about 4khz...that's where the problem is, 300hz to 4khz is a HUGE range...some of the bass guitar, some kick drum, most snare drum and most guitar frequencies are also in this range...trying to EQ the vocals out and keep the music sounding decent is something that's pretty much impossible.

Get Cool Edit Pro and/or Sound Forge, there are some scientific filters and some pretty high tech EQing, particularly the parametric and paragraphic EQ...I used the parametric EQ recently to take the ring out of a snare drum. Don't expect much, though...there is no magic filter.
