I don't think so.... Nice guys take getting used to, though.
I made two consecutive and equally stupid male decisions... each lasted 4 years and both were pricks.
I didn't date or see anyone for over a year, almost two, and when I did... I decided to try something new... if I met a guy that I didn't find immediately attractive and went against the grain of my usual taste, then I'd go out with him.
After 8 years of crap, I had to learn to believe in nice guys...that they were nice without an ulterior motive and genuine... so I had some nice guy therapy, and it worked out great

Its quite simple really. Nice guys finish last because nice guys are usually shy, unattractive, dorks.
The attractive outgoing types are not nice becuase they dont have to be. The girls are all over them anyway no matter how they treat them.
Its works the other way to. The more attractive a girl is, the more likly she is to be a crazy bitch. Becuase they know guys will put up with it for a hot piece of ass.
Simple human nature. All people are shallow. Some just wont admit it.

Being one of those 'nice guys' I'd have to say we often do finish last. Why? That's one of the age old questions that doesn't have an answer.
Here's a little brain dump of what I think about this though...
Some say they like a 'challenge' and a nice guy isn't. Even disregarding a pushover, because that I'm not, I'm not into the game of control, which for some reason I think a majority of women like/want.
I'm not jealous of anyone or anything, including my lady talking to another man. Again, I think this is a turnoff to a lot of women. I have an insane amount of confidence and an extreme distaste of unfaithfulness. If you want to talk to some other man, I'm going to look at it as your loss, not mine.
I'm a little atypical of alot of 'nice guys' in the fact that I'm outgoing, and actually pretty popular among the ladies at the places I frequent... but I, as most nice guys, suffer from the infamous "friend syndrome." Caring is a crime in the singles game it seems. If you're curious about how a woman's day went, how she's feeling, what's going on with her, or if she asks you about something that's going on her life and you actually give a shit.. you're instantly removed from the potential dating pool to the pool reserved for cool guy friends.
The few things listed I think are fairly typical of 'nice guys' and that's why I wrote them. I'm not trying to single myself out, I'm just being a pretend nice guy spokesman.
