Will the average webmaster soon be out of business?

I?m probably not the first person to notice but it seems that the middleman is slowly being pushed out of this business. There are a lot of pay sites and most of them have hosted galleries. Why would a LL, CJ or TGP owner use submitted galleries if they can use 100.000?s of free hosted galleries?

With the prices for pay sites going down, the amount/quality of content in them going up and the amount of free sites also going up I think that the AVS model will be obsolete very soon also.

Soon there will only be content producers, traffic managers and paysite owners and with the growing professionalism in these sectors entering the business will get harder, harder and more expensive. slowly the professionals will grow their business and the average webmaster will get pushed out of this business..

Am I the only one thinking this?

(edit: yea my English sux but hell?. It isn?t my native language, Dutch should be tha language of the world!)

I hope that entering the business does become more difficult.

The fact that it cost 100k to get a liquor lic is good for those that are serious about opening a bar.

I think your right. It's even harder now to get a merchant account for someone starting a paysite. Last week Cardservice and Redwood stopped taking adult merchant accounts (don't know if that's permanent or not). Those were the last 2 in the US. The only way to get a adult merchant account in the US now is to be able to bring in alot of money already or try to get one in the EU.

The way of starting a business on the internet with little or no money is slowly going away. Pretty soon, it will only be people that can come up with the money (of their own or investors).

I don't think so - as soon as people have internet connection fast enought there will be private gold and niche sites only. The same situation as on cable TV

Well... the average webmaster can't grow faster than the industry unless the big boys are losing a lot (I?m not going to talk mathematics here unless forced to, but think about what you said and you'll agree)

But if you meant that webmasters who, at this moment, could be classified as average can grow faster i totally agree.

The average webmaster is not the average business man. Until a few years ago anyone could make money in this business, today a lot of people can make money and in the near future only some will make money in my opinion.

The frontier guys will have to find a new business to profit from.

There are successful webmasters in this industry who never post on a message board, nor do they go to conferences and do just fine.

There are plenty of ways to make money in this industry.

Yep, avarage is out - there s no life. But ... new models are coming. You can see already first steps on that direction... but the big picture is hard to see... I see it So, webmasters will not be doomed... just avarage...

first off, sponsor galleries are filler. If you construct your tgp of only those, you end off like oracle porn, with no real traffic cause all his tgps are cookie cutters.

Submitted galleries change the look and feel of a tgp more. Then there's niche tgps, search engines, toplists, link lists et et. If tgp was the only game in town, maybe..

now, stupid webmasters go out of business real fast. However I'm sure there's another xman right around the corner.

Well said.

People do think out of the box.

Those who do and work hard can and will make money.

Those who are looking for the easy road, won't.

I started in this business almost 9 years ago on a phone call and a promise to return in kind.

I see nothing different today than back in May 1995. Sure 98-00 was an insane time, but great times come and go, good times are built.

Take my IPSP/gateway away, I'll micropay. Ratchet up the regs, I'll consult my lawyer. Make it illegal in my community, I'll live offshore with my money (and taxes). Aslong as men have dicks and women have pussies, porn ain't going anywher but up.

I will answer this from a LL point of view. If we only list sponsor sites, then we lose link popularity, and we lose SE results, and we lose the trickle of traffic that comes from the sites themselves. If all of this is lost, then where/how would we get the traffic needed to make the sales? For my LL, sponsor sites are only lightly mixed in with submitted sites. We would be nowhere without our submitters.

I hope you aren't serious for your sake. I know plenty of people who have made a lot of money since 2000, myself being one of them. Plenty of companies have had a successful online venture since 2000, PayPal is a good example. Plenty of money has also been made online, refer to the above example. I want to think that you were joking when you posted that, but there was no punchline, so I am not sure. If you were serious, consider yourself corrected.

Sites are getting smaller and lowing their prices? Not us.

I do see a trend that worries me. But I won't discuss it on a public board.

Yeah, maybe your right, but why do you think TGPs are accepting new galleries from webmasters? To have more content to offer for their surfers.. and as a surfer, you probably don't like to see always the same design but with pics changing.. thats my
