Card Service Int'l has made it permanant. They are not issuing any new merchant accounts for "high risk" merchants. This is going to be a huge impact to the entire online business model, not just adult. Card Service is one of the largest processors in the world, 12 Billion/year. So far, they have only notified thier outside account reps in a memo. I don't know what they plan on doing with existing accounts, but I will not be surprised if they start dropping accounts soon. If you process through Card Service Int'l you may want to start shopping for another merchant account provider in case the just shut down your account with little or no notice. It seems to be the trend with some companies of late. ![]()

Does he have an office and someone to answer the phone? Does he have a shipping department or programmers working inhouse developing applications? I thought hte average webmaster was in a college dorm trying to make enough money to buy beer for the weekend. I was told the average webmaster on this board couldn't pay my matercard bill every month. Much less rent, car payment and all the rest of that good stuff. whats the truth? |

here's a prediction
in 12months from now the # of free hits coming from tgps would be MINIMAL. You would either pay or seek other traffic sources. |

The current political sistuation will have to change before we are all living offshore. Until then it's only going to get more and more difficult to stay viable let alone successfull in this industry. You'll need a degree in porn to consider a startup.
Webmasters are going to have to get serious about the business aspects, not just the typical webmaster tasks & start approaching things with a business mind. As much as I hate it, we all are going to have to get alot more politicly active to save this industry before it's forced underground like Warez. Porn is more acceptable to mainstream than ever, but the Government is calling the shots and winning. Companies like Epoch are strarting to challenge things in court, but they are not going to win with out a large amount of support from the industry. Porn will NEVER go away, but the ability to run a legitimate bussiness can be made extict. Amatuer hour is over ladies and gentlemen, time to get serious, start giving back to the industry that bought that Hummer in your driveway, and start fighting back.

If you invest in the stock market, do you put all of your money into the market? Not if you've got a brain. Do you put all of your money into one stock? Again, not if your bright. I dont think the adult webmaster is becoming extinct at all. But thier role is changing. You could look at it this way: 50 years ago, shops all used manual cash registers that were slow and clunky. They replaced those with super fast, very complex computerized point of sale systems. Everyone said that computers would eventually replace humans in the workforce. However, an entire industry - employing millions of people - has sprung up to support computers and computer equiptment. There are dealers, service people, consultants, designers and more. Then there are the people that cater to the computer industly like educational organizations and shipping companies. Granted, alot of these jobs are running overseas - but thats a different problem entirely. The jobs are there - it is now just a matter of keeping them in this country. The adult webmaster is not going anywhere. There will always be a role for someone who wants offer sex online as long as this planet is still inhabitied by humans. But the world is changing. TGPs may go away and so may AVS sites. But there are plenty of other things to do in adult besides AVS/TGP.

there will always be room for newcomers and smalltimers. there may not be alot of motivation to be one of those people, but they will definitely exist.

lots of small thinking here.
the adult web in 5 years will be completely different than it is now. high speed will be here. full screen video will be here with stereo sound. there will be a HUGE opportunity for those that can create compelling niche content. there will be less need for pushers of traffic and the affiliate model will diminish. content will be king, and there will be thousands of micro-niches, and many billing models, with new emphasis on pay-per-view, and live performance. beautiful sexy girls will make fortunes from their bedrooms talking off wankers in one-on-ones. they will be in business for themselves. reality shooters with imagination will make a fortune. and big corporate smut conglomerations will diminish in total market share because they will not be able to deliver the personal touch that high speed internet can provide to the surfer. watch it happen. |

Great thread. Good reading. Excellent thoughts.
I'm one of the guys who was here shortly after the beginning and there was a lot of big money back then and it was a very small pond. It's a bigger pond now and I guess i'm now what I would call your average webmaster/sponsor. I think niches are the way of the future. I think everyone should ask every sponsor every time for a password, a username and a free look. This would eliminate many sponsors and get good traffic flowing to good sites. I think pay per click SE's are going to make a lot more money for targeted traffic. I also hope that they wake up slowly to this fact. This is a great business and it's exciting to wake up to it every day. I look forward to waking up to it for many, many years to come. |
