I took my twins on a trip from Dallas to St. Louis when they were a year and a half.

They went apeshit on the plane and everyone wanted to kill us.

I had to pack so much shit for them for 3 days, it was not worth it.

I won't travel with them agin until later this year we are going to New Orleans. They are much better behaved now that they are 3 and they don't need anything special.

I do not believe in traveling with kids. Nothing pisses me off more than to be on a plane with a kids screaming. Flight to Europe is LONG, how can you expect any child to behave for that length of time. Go, and leave kid at home. Kid will not even remember the trip anyways.

I think it will be okay to take your daughter traveling with you guys. I took my sons places when they were young. When traveling by plane they usually slept most of the time. IT can be fun but, exhausting at times

It's safe, but not convenient. Why don't you wait til she is around 4 years old to take this big trip? That will be perfect.

Rent an RV and take your wife and daughter on a north american odyssey. That way your baby and your wife will have a stable, convenient environment plus have a huge long trip.

on my tip home last week there was a couple with 6 kids, it was a 5 hour flight, everything from baby, just able to walk if it holds on to stuff to about 4 year olds. they had no probs, but i suppose it depends on the kid. personally if i were you id wait till the kid can enjoy the trip more

Tending to a little baby on trips can be a headache. Between packing food & diapers you will certainly up your luggage load too. You will have to pack those things because there in no telling if they will have what your kid is acustom to overseas. Cleaning bottles, stopping to change diapers, trying to keep the kid quiet/warm/from getting sick - You wont be able to enjoy the sites as much.
Kids dont appreciate anything until they are much older anyways. Telling your kid he or she went to Europe @ one wont be as impressive to them as them remembering they went to Europe at 6 or older.

My kid (going to be 2 in July) is a beast on roadtrips, I'm sure he would be in rare form on a plane.

I definitely think that would be a bad idea. People don't enjoy a baby screaming half of their plane trip

I traveled with my kid from the time she was 6 weeks old. If your child is a year old here is my advice:
1. go see the world now, life is short and it gets harder to travel with a kid when they hit 2-5 years old. take advantage now.

2. bring a nanny or college kid that wants to see the world too, pick up their tab and they will probably go for free and help with the kid.

3. Get a portable DVD recorder with lots of batteries and a bring a ton of elmo and barney, etc dvd's.

4. your kid can travel for free under 2 years old so do it now and book them as a 'lap child' then request a row that has an open middle seat when you do your reservation, that way you can gt the seat for free anyway.

5. Also try to get a bulkhead aisle, more floor room for them to sit on floor and play with toys.

6. Bring Benedryl to make them drowsy. hehe. just use a little bit.

7. British Airways great airline to use.

8. Get passport for your kid and bring that along withbirth certificate, they are very strict on making sure the kid is yours.

9. take a flight around their bedtime so they are tired and sleeping for first stretch.

10. you may want to break it up and not take a direct flight. switch planes in NY or something and give the kid, you and the other passengers a break, plus cost would be lower and good if you are not in a time hurry.

ok, that is all I can think of for now. Hope it helps.

If i'm ever on a plane with a baby again after 32 hours of travelling and no sleep I WILL KILL THE LITTLE HELL RAISER... nothing worse than landing at heathrow on a rainy day knowing you've got to get back to this... instead of being in the sun and having a little shit screaming in your ear.

get her earplugs, they sell them online even seen them, kids have a lot of eartrouble the pressure is too much, its the same when youve got a cold, hurting like hell thats why they always cry and scream when youre landing, always got a pack with me 15 mins before youre boarding you put them in and the pain is almost gone, way better then giving her some medication...

Go by boat: http://www.cunard.com/
It takes 6 days to cross (oneway) and you'll have the time of your life.

Rent a nice big car when you get to Europe then hit the road.
You should spend atleast 1 month in Europe. July and August are the best months.
Don't forget to come to Sweden!
