My house got broken into a few years ago and someone stole 4 of my guitars and my crate half stack, only guitar I have now is a strat autographed by Jake E Lee that stays in its case
Back in 92 I had the sweetest guitar ever, it was a neck-thru-body Charvel, I picked it up in a pawn shop for $350. Dont know what was so special about it but it was so easy to play and the sound was just perfect to me. Wish I had never sold it. My second favorite was my Gibson studio model. It was heavy, but it sounded great. |
if you really want to get a life long guitar you gotta go into the store, have em put new strings on the fucker (or buy a set and do it yourself) and play it through YOUR amp ... also it depends on your budget ... i ordered a New Old Stock 69 Strat and it sounded like ass ... sent it back. so now im hunting for original electronics to put in a NOS strat, might try some of the different year versions, but i prefer the larger headstock of the 69 version ...
so for now i stick with the gibson SG with the triple rectifier ... serious fucking noise ;) all depends on your price point, are you getting a guitar or the guitar you will have forever ... make those salespeople work! go play stairway to heaven at full blast they love that ;) |

But hook me up on ICQ or something, bro. I love talking music and hardcore related stuff in particular and can hook you up with tons of bands, labels, hc guitar nerds, etc, but I guess it's a little bit off topic here :) I play drums in a band myself, we just released our debut 7" on one of Europe's leading hardcore labels and we're working hard now on writing material for our upcoming full length. |
I have a 50s reissue strat and an Ibanez S470. I would have to say that both are decent guitars and good for beginers but if you really want something that will turn heads and get you a great tone go for a PRS. I can hit a note on my strat (which has a serymour duncan double humbucker in it) and hit the same not on my friends PRS and his note will sustain at least a good 30 seconds or more longer than mine. Better wood, better pickups, better craftmanship all make for a better guitar... But, after saying all that, what really makes your guitar sound good is you. So whatever you get, just play the hell out of it every second you can. Good luck!

When I say "Emo" I mean that more new age screamo, screaming raw but someitmes melodic sound. Its like me saying "Wow that band is very punk" When you can't really say one band is one thing anymore. I'm sure you agree, you and all your knowledge of the scene. For sure ill hit you up on icq. |

My Buddy Guy strat is giving me orgasms after 6 months of playing it it still turns me on :-))
I love the PRS guitars as well, IMHO they sound the best - You can't beat the sound of a PRS through a Mesa Boogie amp- Hate to say it but it kills the Les paul's i have played..... I also just bought a Boss ME-50 and it's the best effects pedal I have ever owned! |

Fender Stratocaster all the way, the most road worthy guitars I have ever owned over the last 20 years of playing.
You sound like you need a guitar with Dual Humbuckers and a Rosewood fretboard. The tone is a little heavler than Maple fretboards. Check out guitars with active electronics. Dont get a guitar with a floyd rose or other system. If its not string thru body the tone wil be insanely thin. Ibanez are nice, but only in the high end models. JEM series are nice. the standard RG series are Shit. I've had them, totally thin. There are only 2 amps out there worth using. 1. Marshall - The Original of them all. JCM9000's totally scream. 2. Mesa-Boogie - Get a Vintage Mark V if you can. The line6's with their Digital things are nice and all, but, when you are playing in a club and something goes funky on the amp or in your rig, you dont want the whole tone to be dependant on your cool settings / mixed settings. I've had a million pedals / processors and they all go south on you at the gig, never at home. Also, most people 10 - 20 feet out cant hear the effects anyway. Best investment I ever made for my live rig is a Nasty Wireless. $150 about 10 years ago. Nothing beats a wireless guitar, never trip over a cord again. |
REAL Strats are more than 400 CDN. You're looking at shit strats. Bear in mind I think all strats are shit strats but the cheap ones truly are.
I have like 14 guitars, and at this point I am buying custom made. Although I just saw Kramer reissued the 5150 guitar and am thinking about picking one of those up and having the 5150 pattern painted on it as a collectable. I just saw a cheap double neck (one guitar one bass) Steinberger )spirit series whatever that is) - that thing looks pretty cool and it's pretty cheap. The biggest decision I have in guitars is whether I want a trem. Usually I do - which prevents me from getting a Paul or many other snob guitars. The nicest playing axe I have is an Ibanez RG570 - but it is also the worst sounding axe I own. My current guitar Ed Roman is building has the feel of the 570, but with real wood. It is getting a korina back with all strange maples up top and on the fingerboard. I'm thinking amboyna with burly everything and a birdseye maple fingerboard. And a floyd and two duncans and a Floyd sustainiac. Add a kill switch and we're golden. Total cost - so far - $4000. What the hell, I've earned it. |
