*HELP* Photoshop problem!!!

When I click the type tool and copy pasty some text I get the message "Could not use the type tool because there is not enough ram" I get the same message when I try to change the color by selecting it. When I just type the text I don't get this error.

I added an extra 512 mb 2 weeks ago with a total of 1.3 gigs now so that shouldn't be the problem.

Anybody else ever had this problem, and know how to solve it?

Try going to:

edit >> preferences >> memory & Image Cache

now crank up your 'memory usage' and you should be fine

I've had the same proble, and I'm fucked if I can remember what fixed it.
What could help:
Edit > Purge > Clipboard
(You might have too much in the cache)
Edit > Preferences > Plugins and scratch disks
(Check which is your primary scratch disk, set that one to a disk/partition with the most free space)
Edit > Preferences > Memory and image cache
(Don't let PS use all your available memory)

Also shut down all unnecessary background tasks

Have you defragged your drive since the RAM increase?

do you have more than one physical HD?...try putting the swap file on another HD, defrag all drives, and that should give you some joy.

I have more suggestions...but don't know what you're running.

If you still have probs hit me up

i c q 2 2 2 1 9 2 2 1 0

hth...

Haven't defragged yet, and I also have 2 hds. Let me try that now, hope it helps as all other options did't help me out

Could it be because of the new ram?

it could be the RAM...

depending on your motherboard specs...some are pickier than others when adding hardware.

as you have 2 HD's..I would point PS scratch to one and the windows pagefile on the other, defrag, restart...

hth

RAM either works or doesn't - should NOT be a problem with the new RAM.

My suggestion:

1) Edit Preferences - set PS mem usage to 80-90%. Restart.
2) Since you're copying text I suggest you copy it to Notepad {to clear the formatting and "lighten" it}.
3) Select ALL. Copy.
3) Paste it to PS text tool

Tell us what happened.

Keeps getting the same error. Strange thing is, it only happens with the type tool

Sometimes a damaged font will give you that error.

Is it happening on one specific font, or on all fonts? If it's one font, try re-installing that one.

I have seen some 3rd party fonts do that and nothing short of removing the font will fix the problem.

what dimensions are you using on your file? resolution? I only have a gig and can still work on banners that are 3 ft x 5 ft @ 200 dpi. Something on your machine is seizing up you ram. Right click on My computer and click properties...to see how much of your ram is actually registering. Maybe a stick is shot. Good luck.
