    lalalalalalalala.... BOOM!

so i was sitting there minding my own business last night working away and all the sudden.. CLICK!

my computer shut off and it wouldn't turn back on

the psu fan froze, and the psu roasted itself. that really sucks, i think that's the first real nasty hardware failure i've had.

and, of course this board has a the extra power connector required, so i had to buy an extremely overpriced replacement... i hate buying computer parts locally. none of my extras have the extra connector.

    sometimes i really hate computers

The ASUS board I have on my main pc has temp sensors on the cpu and it automatically monitors it for overheating and will shut down the board.

You should get that on yours.

this machine is running an abit at7-max2, a fairly pimp-alicious board.

it monitors the cpu fine, but not the psu.

the new psu i got is an antec with what looks like a fan connector thingie, i'm not *entirely* sure (it wasn't documented), but i assume this is to monitor the psu fans. but i'm not going to toss it on a fan header until i know for sure what it does

fuckers charged me almost $90 for this psu i can get online for $50.. that blows.

I'm having the same problems over here.

You're lucky it only costed you a PSU! My fucking PSU killed one of my disks too. Bye bye 160GB of data

They can be a little expensive on some things, but they give a 5 year warranty on just about every thing they have, and the stuff will last for 5 year too, running constantly.

i have overclocked pcs etc that get hot but mine will always crash and turn off before they blow up. Didnt the cpu alarm go off with those annoying loud beeps first.

they definitely have some kick-ass parts, i love that full tower they have.

i think the antec/enermax should be fine tho. they usually make some good products, and 3 year warranty is pretty good. besides that, in the next 2 years or so, all the psu's are changing anyways when btx finally comes out

to my knowlegde, _most_ computers don't monitor the power supply.. as mine did not. that's why i didn't know it was getting hot/fan died.

everything else in my system is monitored pretty closely tho, so it's really the main weak link
