Domain names are important, but you can take literally any domain name and with the right marketing kick ass with it. Take that for what its worth, I just wanted to say that in this thread and express my opinion.

Also, their are alot of players out their with shitty domain names, but are marketing wizzes, and make millions!

i'd bet that porn.com and porno.com make far more revenue than sex.com

trying to pretend that domains dont matter is stupid. there are peopel who make money without domains (raises hand)..

and there are people who make money with domains (raises hand).

the latter is much easier. the former requires mareketing wizardy... thank god i'm smarter than 99.99% of the people reading :)

That's a nice one. I own www.flashings.com which is obviously a develped site and part of my webmaster program. I'm very happy with the domain and I think it definately helps conversions because the domain legitimizes the site in the eyes of the consumer.

If I wasn't so far over my domain budget this month already I'd be buying it. ;)

Flashers won't be good for any type of site. It's full potential is in a site that will use it in it's content.

No doubt. Yahoo & google are oft-cited examples. The porn biz too is full of millions-earning sites with shitty names. Still, nothing like an extra 10 million type-ins every year looking for just the product you're selling. That's what a name like travel.com could provide.

I think if they were both marketing porn in the same way, porn & porno would definitely make more per click. I'd guess sex.com gets several times the traffic though...I doubt the per-click revenue difference would make up for the difference. Could be though...as you said, "porn" is more targeted than "sex."

There's a good possibility that the buy now price will be met today or tomorrow. Not sure about it but some heavy players are asking questions.

Sites like KarupsPC.com and KarupsHA.com as well as sites like ALSScan.com and AMKingdom.com prove that a domain name really isn't all that important. It's branding, not a nice domain.
