I dont understand. WHy would you pay a development fee when they are digital?

You just upload them from your camera yourself and make prints of the ones you want. (if you want prints that is)

I always let pics develop online. There are always good results though IŽm not a professionell fotographer. I use an E20P Camera and photoshop the pics before.

So IŽm from europe, IŽm afraid the online service I use wouldnŽt fit for you.

you can buy really high quality photo paper and when you print you have the option to make them whatever size you want (so they'll fit in the album). mine always come out looking great when i print them myself.

If you like to do prints with a comp, I would use a printer with 6 colors like HP 7960. The prints are not more expensíve then a print ordered online.

If you like online prints .. I use Shutterfly.com .. I've always been happy with their quality .. and if you prepurchase prints you can get a pretty good discount. Otherwise Target and Walmart make digital prints (.29 and .24 for a 4x6 respectively) .. I'm going to get some made at Target soon, but I dont know how the quality is there or at Walmart .. but the benefit is they're done in an hour, rather then waiting for them to be shipped to you.

I don't believe that one bit. When you factor in the price of the printer, the ink and the paper, I'm sure they're more expensive.

I've been going to the local Walgreen's, if you print more than 20 they're just 20 cents each. Bargain!

I donŽt know the prices in US of course, but in europe the printers are very cheap. The HP for example was offered today - I just bought one for my sister - for 199,00 ?. Ink cartridges are available for about 30,00 ?.

Of course it depends on the number of prints you do, if it will be more expensive or not. But I referred to a costumer test magazine in europe which compared both, prints and onlineservice. They told that it is not more expensive. I didnŽt proof this, I have to admit.

And I have to do photoprints for my business, so it doesnŽt matter for me. Prints done by onlineservices could be better, if they are used for ages. Maybe photoprints get broken after several years.

No way. Not for me. If I paid for every print I needed I would be broke lol. Im constantly selling 8x10's and stuff so if I had to order them everytime, i would not only have to wait for delivery, it have to pay a fee.

Besides. I dont pay for the ink and paper. THey "fell off the truck" and my mom got the for me.

well some BASIC math, but lets give it a shot ...

decent printer: $250 ?
ink (black and photo): $80
paper (i pack i guess): $30

total: $360 not counting time and labor

for $360 i can order 1.8k pics online at $0.20 each

can i print 1.8k prints with the supplies listed?

talking about 5x7 or whatever avg size is for album ...

It doesnŽt make sense if you only want some fifty pics in a year for a photoalbum. But if you do a lot of prints you should know that you have to send more then one pic to the onlineservice to get the 0,20 fee but you can print only one pic on your printer for the same costs.

If you are interested in, IŽll post the comparison tomorrow or send it as an e-mail.

at this time it is cheaper to go conventional print route. the only thing you save by having your own printer is some time, but the end result will cost you more if you print inkjets yourself.

and unless you are using archival pigment ink sets (like epson 2200, etc.) traditional chemical prints will look better, longer.

if you start spending the $ for archival paper and pigment ink then your inkjet home prints will be superior to conventional chemical prints in both image quality and archival characteristics---but you need the right printer; the new epson 7 color pigment inks and the right paper will look much more brilliant and sharper than conventional lab stuff, but at a price. save those shots for the ones you mat and frame and give away at christmas, and you will need a high end digicam with enough resolution to really see the difference in quality.

of course these price points could all change in 18 months.

so i think for any kind of quantity, the route would be to order them online.

which brings me back to my original question of does anyone know where i can get decent prices?

i think ophoto is like .24 or .29 regardless of quantity
