You know that the only reason they'd ever bother to put that up is because they've had trucks hit that bridge way to many times.

Is it dumb that they had to or dumb that the trucks kept running into a bridge?

Happened to me once. But it happened only the second time that I went under the bridge :)
I had a heavy load on the first trip, which I'd offloaded. Then, driving back, there was this horrible grinding screech, and I was jammed solid. Let some air out of the tyres and it was fine. My heart almost stopped though :)
