I agree. I shoot with the canon rebel. 6.3 megapixels. its an amzing SLR for the price. Only like 899 for the body. If you prefer a stronger metal body and a few more professional options I would go with the canon 10D for a few hundred dollars more. Video Camera stills are horrible!!! |

For $999 ya can get the Rebel with a 28-55mm Lens which is OK for most adult work. I prefer a bit more zoom range.
Besides the body, does anyone know of other differences in the 10D. Like is it faster to focus etc.? |

I have the Canon Rebel and I love it. But if you want something less bulky and don't want to deal with lenses, don't buy it.
Here are the top ten digitals rated by PC World right now http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/artic...,113756,00.asp If you want a point and shoot, get the biggest zoom you can get, like a 10x or bigger. 10x is equivalent to 38-380mm. The Olympus C-750 Ultra Zoom , #3 on that list, looks pretty sweet. |

Could save $ and get by on a Coolpix 5700. Then you could have $ left over to buy all the extras. Not the same as the 300D or 10D, but still good enough for most of the low end adult work..
Not a pro here, so paying $3K with some of the extras... not practical now. Yeah I know the pros spend much more. Prolly on lighting alone, before they even get to the camera. |

By speed I mean shutter speed, focus speed, capture speed, next acquistion. All these things can be in the specs, but don't mean anything to me until I use the camera for awhile. That in the end is the only way to tell. |

If possible I would choose always a digital cam from a brand, which is also manufacturing analog SLR cams, like Nikon, Canon, ... especially if you like to do a bit more then only let the cam do everything automatically. If it has to be a digital SLR is up to you, if it's important for you to have the possiblity to change the objective and of course how much money you wanna spend.
Did not work yet with the Canon 300d, but what I was reading about it, it's quite a good price for the quality you get. My advice: go to a shop, where you can test the cam. Take it in your hands, feel it, if the handling is ok for you and if possible shoot some test-pics before you decide. And some helpful questions to decide could be: - what do I want to use the pics for (web / print) --> for web only you don't need 8 megapixels - which type of storage-card is the cam working with? --> compact flash, memory stick, sd-card, - compare the prices! - which kind of connection does the cam offer? --> usb2, firewire, usb1 - how is the quality of the lcd-screen on the backside? --> indoor, outdoor, for example sunlight - which kind of image-formats does the cam support? --> jpg, tiff, raw - what kind of the camera-settings can I change manually? - quality of the case? --> plastic, magnesium, metal, ... hope I could give you some useful hints to think about :-) |

Only thing I don't like about my Rebel is it goes to sleep. You have to push the button and let it wake up before you can take a pic. Takes like 10 seconds. Pain in the ass when you want to get something quick and you aren't ready. Once it's ready though you can fire away all you want. I should look at my manual and see if I can set it differently. Seemed like it went to sleep mode really fast.

someone has to make the obligatory www.DPReview.com post...
check that website for tons of reviews, user opinions, msg boards. I use a Nikon D100 for content and a little Canon digital Elph for casual stuff. |

Has anyone used any of the Kodak Professional line digital cameras? I've got a few family members who are Kodak employees and I can get a nice discount on any of the cams.
