My bank takes all checks and puts a hold on the funds until they clear. Never really tried to cash an out of state check, I am assuming that if I didn?t have the funds in my account they would say no.
What drama this could have been if the donation checks bounced!
Brad what you did was nice and Tala should get all the money donated to her, but I would hold off a bit longer before sending the money since you could possibly occur some charge backs over this mess. And, do not give up hope on helping people.
Tala, I was happy to extend a helping hand but what I didn?t expect was how you handled this situation. Money that you are not expecting is a gift and, damn, with most vendors I wait net 90 to be paid so I doubt I would make such a fuss over it so soon or worry about pledges and wish lists.

What really pisses me off about this whole mess and did right from the start is that there are a lot of people in this industry who face hard times but they never come begging to the boards.
They put their heads down and work their way through the whole situation and struggle until they succeed and we never hear about them because they are too proud to beg.
Then there are others who do the exact opposite.

What a fucked up thread. I think Brad should keep a few bucks for his trouble with this bullshit and the remaining balance should be sent to some charity that isn't going to bitch about the size of the check you give them.
As for the remaining $900 medical bill balance Tala, just send them a little money each month, what you can even if it's just $20 or so and they should leave you alone about it. You're back to work now so this shouldn't be a problem. Like Tootie said, I'm soooooooooooooooo grateful for all that everyone has done. You have no idea how thrilled and happy I was, and how much respect I hold for those involved. I appreciate everything you've all done.

When I had my accident, nobody helped me out with a damn nickel. I had to sell my car to keep the house payments current. My insurance money on my bike went towards bills. I had absolutely no income for 2 months, and on top of my regular expenses (about $8k a month) I had huge medical bills piling up.
I just had to tighten my belt a notch and make adjustments and sacrifices.
But now I'm back on my feet. I'm able to walk again, got new wheels, got the income pumping again, and learned who my friends are. That which doesnt kill you, makes you stronger.
Nobody bounces back like MrPheer

regarding your 3rd comment...
Better than trying to give extra money back to sources which would have required more of Brad's time, it might have been better to donate it to a worthy charity.

I hadn't had any thought about what Brad might or might not have put into this until I read your comment. Brad did send the money. He did his part. In fact it sounds like he bent over backwards in finding alternative ways to get it to her when she couldn't *cash* the 3 checks.
