Me and my man are volunter EMT's (hes also a firefighter). Last went, we went on a very disturbing call.

Around 5AM, our pagers went off, calling for EMT's & drivers. So, we get our jackets & go. Wondering why they never said what the call was about over our radio pagers, we asked what was goin on. The Captain said "Somone reported seeing a body by the railroad tracks. We dont know if they're alive or not." So, we go, drive to the location which was about 2 miles away. We start lookin for this man that was supposidly laying by the tracks. When we found him, I saw that the head was decapated, his left arm was halfway off. I immediatly turned my head and started to throw up. I've seen pics of this shit before, but when you get that close, its dark & you're trying to look really hard for something and you get a close up of something so bad, well, I cant even describe what thats like. Thats not the worst part. After I calmed down a little, and EMT crews were callin for the Corner, my man & a few other EMT's went to the ambulance to get a sheet (to cover the body up). They walk over and I hear my man saying "Oh SHIT!!!!!!" I asked "What?" He said "...its Brian!!!!!!!" Brian is a friend of one of his friends. He hung up with him occasionaly. And it was just last night that he was with him. They were at a bar (right near the tracks) having a few drinks & I guess after my man left, Brian got really drunk & started to walk home. His home was right on the other side of the tracks. Theres no ruling yet on the death. Suicide has been a thought, but anyone knowing him would say no to that theory. Being that we know where he was hours before the call, we can only assume that he passed out on the tracks on the way home. Goes to show how much life can change in just a few hours. |

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. That must have been awful. It takes a special breed of person to do that kind of work, much less do it for free. Kudos to you and your man! I hope they provide some sort of grief counselling for their workers. It sounds wishy-washy, but it can really help.

I saw a body when I was snowboarding once. He had been there for a while, and they were wrapping him in a tarp to put on a sleigh to get him off the mountain.

It bugged me for a few weeks, but even though what you saw sounds a hell of alot worse than what I saw, im sure you'll be able to get over it in a while. Have you thought about counselling or anything? My friend saw some dead people on the highway once after a huge accident, he went to counselling and said it really helped alot. ![]()
