This is what Craig Barrett (the CEO of Intel) has to say.

"I don't think this has been fully understood by the United States," said Mr. Barrett. "If you look at India, China and Russia, they all have strong education heritages. Even if you discount 90 percent of the people there as uneducated farmers, you still end up with about 300 million people who are educated. That's bigger than the U.S. work force."

He said: "The big change today from what's happened over the last 30 years is that it's no longer just low-cost labor that you are looking at. It's well-educated labor that can do effectively any job that can be done in the United States."

In Mr. Barrett's view, "Unless you are a plumber, or perhaps a newspaper reporter, or one of these jobs which is geographically situated, you can be anywhere in the world and do just about any job."

"Companies can still form in Silicon Valley and be competitive around the world," he said. "It's just that they are not going to create jobs in Silicon Valley."

He was then asked, "Aren't we talking about an entire generation of lowered expectations in the United States for what an individual entering the job market will be facing?"

"It's tough to come to another conclusion than that," said Mr. Barrett. "If you see this increased competition for jobs, the immediate response to competition is lower prices and that's lower wage rates."

Outsourcing actually CREATES jobs in that it allows companies to save money on expensive US labor for mature product/service lines. This saved money is invested in new ventures which create new "first line" US jobs/products. When these mature, the cycle begin again with outsourcing.

Only people who are short-sighted will fail to see that outsourcing is a blessing to the economy in general. If it werent' for the "push" of outsourcing and the expanding economic pie it generates.... we'd still be making big tail fin cars in Detroit.

Outsourcing is the future of business. Pretending that it can be stopped is laughable. Either embrace it and run with it, or be left behind shaking your fist at the injustice of a cruel world.

Japan has the world's 3rd largest economy, and Toyota just bumped off Ford to become the 2nd largest car manufacturer in the world.

Japan has done well for itself and its success didn't change the US's position a bit.

I agree that outsourcing won't change America's position as the #1 economy, but it certainly isn't going to help it maintain that position.

America's economy will continue to grow, but India and China's economies will grow faster, and in the next 25 years China will overtake America as the world's largest economy, and Japan will be overtaken by India as the world's 3rd largest.

India has 1 million new COLLEGE graduates each year...hard to compete with that when they are willing to work for so little. I did the math and Delta Airlines alone saves 60 million per year roughly for shipping 4000 jobs to India.

The other thing is, there is a whole way around this, did anyone watch 60 Minutes last night? All you would have to do is open up a subsidary in the Cayman Islands. They will then be able to do business with any one of these countries.

"Outsourcing" really means "Get off the boat"

How can this thing make a better America? It can't. There is no way that it can. To many laws, regulations, codes, taxes, labor rights, etc for a business in the United States.

It makes literally no sense to open a tech company in the US anymore.

I believe the US will bottom out and fall into a Civil war...

But then... I am being optimistic. Civil war is the best thing that can happen in the USA to rid some of the burdening laws that hold back progress and commerce.
For a very simple simple example lets note how the abuse of the system is going on right now that is within our very own industry. Acaccia. This sort of thing is happening everywhere and people are getting pissed about it in the US.
You open up a company these days in the USA your likely to get a law suit filed against you for one thing or another...
