Any audio experts here, I'm looking for a new surround system

I will buy this surround unit.

http://www.marantz.com/p_product.cfm...&series =comp

What speakers do you advice? I mean brandwise.... Would you go for TANNOY, KEF, JBL, magnat, SWAN,B&W, Mirage or something else?

BTW I want a satelite speaker set, so no HUGE speakers. I know they are most of the times better, but I simply need the smaller ones:-)

My dad bought this KEF speakerset. I must say they are top notch! They're quite pricy though (don't know what your budget is). But the sound quality is absolutely amazing and you can just upgrade your speakerset to 6.1 or 7.1 by adding one speaker. A big plus is they look good too!

Seb.

As far as the Marantz, awesome, you can never go wrong with Marantz.

Thanks...Will look at that KEF set...My surround is 6.1 so upgradable to 6.1 is a big plus :-)

If you get satellites, don't bother getting the matching subwoofer, as it will be crap. Slug one of these babies into the corner. It's hands down the best subwoofer you can buy for less than $5000.

This will be my next upgrade.

I have this Denon receiver. I love it, and also compared it side by side with the comparable Marantz. I went with the Denon because of it's features and smoother sound.

I have it hooked up to Boston Acoustics VRC center speaker, 4 Boston Acoustics VR-950 towers (2 in front and 2 in back), Mirage side speakers and a powered 15" Mission sub woofer.

The BA speakers never "speaker fatigue" me. I had some Klipsch, but I returned them due to speaker fatigue.

Here's a pic of my theater room. You can't see it, but the second row is raised seating

If you're looking for small units, there are some nice B&W systems to buy. You'll pay, but the quality is outstanding.

http://www.bwspeakers.com

I really like Ruark (I have a set, so i'm biased) http://www.ruark.net but i dont believe they have satellites.

What i really should have said at the beginning is, go audition all the units on your list with whatever music/audio you're into and use the same content on each set. You'll notice huge differences and that way you'll get what your ear likes rather than what one of us GFYers like. And if you're dropping more than 3k... make the sales guy hook each set up to the receiver you're buying... they like to cheat using 12k amps on 1k speakers.. of course they'll be nice.
