Stupid photoshop question
I've decided after too many years to sit down and learn to use photoshop properly. There are some nice little 'intermediate' tutorials about but there's something I want to do that's probably simple and I can't find a tutorial for...
All I want to do is raise an area of the image up from the background a little (hope that makes sense) - sort of along the lines of the effect emboss produces but keeping the background colour. It's something that's used all over the place especially on tours. Anyone know of a tutoral for it? |

Do you mean that you want to keep the background (so the object is transparent, but make the shape of the object look as if it's floating above the page? If that's the case, you'll need to add a drop shadow and lower the (not the layer opacity but the fill).

ah http://www.s2outsource.com/index.htm nicely designed site posted in a thread I started earlier. I basically want to know how to do the effect at the top ie raise a section as with the bit that has the s2outsource logo in it. Like I say something that's done a lot and is probably very simple once you know how. And juicy...ICQing you |

That's just done with a very small drop shadow. I believe it also has a very small soft bevel.
You just need to put the shape on it's own layer with a bit of a drop shadow. |

Thanks and yep - I'll toddle off and play. Simple enough when you actually think about it but my brain had died and I was trying all sort of more complicated shit to produce it.
