black coat, white shoes, blackhat, cadillac...

..the boy's a time bomb

Thought I was going a bit more moden tonight with my playlist until I realised that that song is nearly a decade old.

Getting old is a bitch

LOL! Sarah.
Your post reminds me of a conversation that I had with my 23 yr. old son the other day. He was mortified to hear Bon Jovi's "Living On A Prayer" being played on an "Oldies" station, because it's always been one of his fave songs. I told him "Welcome to Growing Old 101!"

lol and then how sad am I that I want to say that if he is 23 when he first heard Living on a Prayer it was probably already old ?

Nearly a decade old?
I just downloaded it the other day thinking "hey, now there's a song I haven't heard in a while".
Now I feel old too

1995 I think..my first year at college. It was the song that led up to the first time I admitted to my parents I liked punk. Sounds stupid but that was a big deal..mom cried.

I remember being one of the first kids in my school to get into New Wave in the early 80's.
I had long hair that I spiked and dyed and wore some funky ass clothes.
I was hungry like the wolf because I ran so far away while looking for a message in a bottle that said don't you want me baby.

Oh shit. Am I that old already?

Nah, being from Philly, he grew up listening to groups like Bon Jovi, Tommy Conwell & The Young Rumblers, The Hooters, Robert Hazard, George Thorogood, etc.

As a matter of fact, I'm sure he probably heard it for the first time when it initially came out - because I used to buy all of the latest tapes when they hit the stores. lol

Hey, if memory serves me right, you're originally from the Philly area too, aren't you?

yup, and I heard it when it came out too...1987 I think was when that Bon Jovi album came out. Apparently my tastes were a bit advanced for the average 9 year old ..I remember fighting with my mom that I wanted to go see them at the Spectrum

Yesit's Rancid, from "Out Come the Wolves" I believe. I got that CD way back when and still love it. Ruby Soho is my fave from it.

Yeah, the Vancouver stations are all repositioning this year. "My" station has moved from "The Fox Rocks" to rock hits of the 70's,80's and 90's and beyond. Arg. Soon I'llbe moved over to CISL650 (lovingly called "Senile650") on the AM dial, because you know old people can't hear stuff in stereo anyway.

two true stories.

1: I was at my grandmothers and I must have been about six and some punk rock video was on early music tv (don't think it was mtv) ..complete with safety pins, etc. I was pogoing around the room. My grandmother walked in, turned off the tv and said 'good people don't listen to that music'

2: About 10 years old and I was listening to Bon Jovi and Van Halen and I went to the corner store and bought a copy of Circus Magazine just because it had an article about Bon Jovi in it. I hid it inside the piano bench. My mother found it, was horrified that here were pics of the metal boys without shirts on and she screamed - i can still hear it now - 'Get this pornography out of my house'

So, I always had the musical taste but I supressed it from that point on..wouldn't let myself admit to liking it until one friend who was in a punk band in high school took me to my first small punk gig and it was like my real personality came rushing back.

oh and if anyone ever heard of a punk band called Buring Ambitions that was touring the east coast (mostly Philly area) in the mid to late 90's I would love to find that friend again.

Oh how ironic! My son begged me to let him go to a Bon Jovi show at the Spectrum too, when he was about that age. I gave in and let him go with me and my friends and from that point on, he was a true 'concert-aholic'. lol

I know for a fact that he saw Bon Jovi at least 3 times before he was 12, and Aerosmith about 5 times before he was 13. We used to get the oddest looks too...guess folks weren't used to seeing parents bringing their kids to concerts that often. lol
