Nice Story About Pets
Web Site Solves Pet Problem For Military Members
Members of the armed services often leave their homes with little advance notice. But what happens to the pets they leave behind? A new Web site hopes to answer that question for soldiers, sailors and Marines. PetFosterCare.com aims to pair pets in needs of a temporary home with pet lovers who can provide shelter. Melissa Gleason's husband is based at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. Their family loves two dogs -- a German shepard called Willy Wong and a terrier-mix called Mikey. "Military families, we thrive on having animals," Gleason said. "They keep us company. They're like our friends when the service member's gone." The Gleasons turned to PetFosterCare.com when Gleason found out she'd be transferring out of state while her husband is deployed. Gleason's mother was going to care for Mikey and Willy Wong before she was hospitalized. Now, the family hopes the service can help the dogs. The woman who created the Web site said she had paired more than 1,000 pets with loving, temporary homes. |
