I agree with you Sweden is cold(where I live)-- norway probably colder and Icleand is the coldest of them all.

btw, I took a walk with my dog this morning when I come back the temprature showed -11 F/-24 C outside.

Of course, and no amount of children being slaughtered every single minute of every single day will change that one, little, inescapable detail.

Iraq is an elementary school playground compared to the atrocities in some african countries. Perpetrated by their own people against their own people.

Like the 20 mass graves unearthed in the Congo, freshly filled with close to 1,000 victims of genocidal massacres.

Like the 3.3 million people who have died in Congo since 1998 ? to say nothing of the horror stories of macheted infants, incinerated villages and soldiers cannibalizing their victims.

Wanna talk about something that needs to be wiped out. THIS shit needs intervention. It's not going to happen though so I'm not holding my breath. It's pretty easy to say that Saddam was such a horrible guy taken on his own merits and what he did, and he WAS. But what about all the other dictators that are doing this shit to their own people and continue to do so to this very day?

Yep, it's fair.

Hmmm --

Still waiting for the UN to take a stand or do, well, anything.

Stand up -- the leaders of international politics, purveyors of truth and equality, and human rights activists!

No wait...

It won't happen.

Where do Canada and the UN stand on doing something about this issue?

What have either done?

<IMX> 01-22-2004 12:38 PM

Exactly.
The U.N. won't do much of anything.

Oh -- contraire mon amie -- they will do something...

They'll talk about it for years while doing nothing while offering no solution....

then they bitch about the unilateral actions... when 'some country' actually does something.

<IMX> 01-22-2004 12:46 PM

Lady Mischief--

I see that your hear maybe in the right place, by calling attention to genocidial warfare in African countries...but remember genocide is just that.

Blacks Africans have a multitude of different ethnic/tribal/religious distinctions--just like Asians and Indians.

You are correct. If people think Saddam is bad, some of the guys running the show in those counties in north africa make Saddam look like a Kindergarten teacher. Things like mass genocide, forcing 8 year old children to join the army, the list of atrocities goes on and on and on. Wonder when Bush is going to go remove their scourge from the world.

Oh wait sorry, they don't have oil! :P
Totally agree! :thumbsup

The difference is they are "non people" (ie they have little or no oil) tho plenty western companies are in their grabbing other natural assets.

Just an aside... for all the whiners and bitching going on about stuff like the UN - remember this. The chances are your country is a member of the UN.

If you want to know why "nothing" is being done, ask your elected representatives.

It is lot for the lack on asking for support by the UN - chances are, once again, they were "non people" and did not matter in your daily life.

They don't have oil, they don't need to be stabilized. The have have diamonds, and civil war doesn't hurt that industry. So a few people die and everyone has aids, we need our bling bling.
