    "Playboy" Obscenity Investigation

    but I felt this article needed a more accurate attention-drawing subject line.




    CULLMAN, Ala. - US District Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan apparently wasn?t kidding when she said that it might be possible that even Playboy, a tame magazine by today?s standards, could still be deemed obscene in the United States. A bookstore in Alabama is currently being accused of selling obscene materials ? Playboy and Playgirl.

      The government should not be able to win a case like that in 2004. If they somehow do, Alabama shouldn't be considered part of the U.S. - more like Saudi Arabia.

                                          The book store owner removed Playboy from his shelves,
                                          rather than risk prosecution and an expensive legal battle
                                          that these assholes knew he could not afford.

                                          These religious crusaders, hiding behind the badge of the Justice Dept,
                                          know they can intimidate small biz owners with just the threat of fines/jail-time.

                                          Even if you eventually "win" the case, after months/years of stress
                                          and harrasment, you still end up bankrupt from defending yourself.

                                          The only way to really win is to not vote religious extremists into power.

                                                                                                                                                                              Being a district attorney for a small county is not about being fiscally responsible. It is about prosecuting crimes in your county according to local, state, and federal laws.
                                                                                                                                                                              The people in this county are the ones who voted in this district attorney.
                                                                                                                                                                              Not the rest of the people in the united states. Not all of the republicans.

                                                                                                                                                                              Voting turnout on *good* days is about 40% of registered voters. In a county of 14k people, that's 5600 people.

                                                                                                                                                                              So your problem is with 5600 (at most) people in a small county in Alabama.
                                                                                                                                                                              Take it to them and stop attempting to bash all republicans with the actions of a few.

                                                                                                                                                                              And next time try including all of the details. It makes you at least *appear* to not be slanting the story.
