Bush is going to really turn off the gay voters with this

"All of us ? parents, schools, government ? must work together to counter the negative influence of the culture and to send the right messages to our children," he said.

Going to be in his State of the Union speech tonight referring to the Gay lifestyle.

    Wow. Talk about bad politicing.

Yeah he's really worried about the gay vote. He already wrapped up the election by damn near giving citizenship to every Mexican illegal in the country so all the hispanics are going to vote for him this time, instead of just 30% or so.

I don't think he's exactly alienating his core constituency by doing this or affecting his vote too much.

Bad politics because he is not pandering to a minority? He will win again, not because he is truly representive of working class, etc America, but because he appears to be at least doing something for them.

It is the same with John Howard over here. The media screemed and screemed about his tough stance on assylum seekers, and claimed he would loose votes, but in a matter of a week he gained about 30% more of the vote and won by a landslide.

The Democrats and Labor (our equivelent) can keep claiming they represent the working class, and they can keep pandering to the little leftist idealists, but the truth is Bush and Howard have already got their vote.

No, he is talking about the negative influences of gay culture is he not? Most people, in Australia at least, would support him.

This isn't "not pandering to a minority" if he was doing that he wouldn't mention them at all, this is "offending a minority"

Offending is the opposite to appeasing really. Gay 'culture' is a counter-culture pretty much, and I see nothing inaccurate in what he is saying.
