Teen In Critical Condition After Playing Chicken With Amtrak
Suffered Broken Bones, Ruptured Liver

POSTED: 4:38 PM PST January 16, 2004

LOS ANGELES -- A teenager playing a game of chicken on railroad tracks was struck by an Amtrak train, authorities said.

Daniel Wilkinson, 18, who is from Missouri, suffered broken bones and a ruptured liver and was in critical condition Thursday in the intensive-care unit at San Clemente's Mission Hospital, said Lt. Dave Wilson of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Wilkinson and four friends were on the tracks about one mile south of the San Clemente Pier when Amtrak's San Diego-bound Pacific Surfliner approached at about 40 mph late Wednesday.

"He was the last to step off the track, and he was hit," Wilson said.

No passengers or crew members were injured.

Teenagers stupid enough to play chicken with trains shouldn't be removed from the gene pool?

I suppose suffering broken bones and a ruptured liver counts as removing yourself. ;)

and the other one, suicide happens all the time, doesnt mean the people are stupid! Most darwin awards are funny and made up.

Umm...he's in critical condition. It seems unlikely he's gonna make it.

this is nothing new.

i have two friends who have issues now with trains because of this.

one of them, watched one of his friends get killed by a train.
(they were seeing how close they would stand to the tracks, i guess he won)

the other got caught on top of a bridge, with no side area, he ended up jumping off to avoid the train. I don't know how high it was, but he has screwed his back for life. This guys is a computer engineer as well if you can believe it.

The most retarded line in that second article is "A new understanding between law enforcement officials and commuters needs to grow." and its following paragraph. As if the man shot himself in the head because he was unsure of how to act during a traffic stop.

I think that's what happened. We need traffic stop education.

I know a few people that have been hit by a train. One of them died.

I am orginally from a small town and eventually almost everyone after a case of beer gets the bright idea to go to the tracks and see who can last the longest.

I never understood their thinking, but never the less they still did it.

Boredom = stupidity?

Or is it that in a small town there is a lot of inbreeding?

There was this lady my hubby worked with that got hit by a train that was moving at 10 miles an hour... how this came about is beyond me and I am to this day still wanting to know the full story of what the fuck this retarded lady was thinking when she got hit.

the train is a cargo train that moves around the plant..taking products from point A to Point B..it moves at 10 miles an hour and makes the most god awful noise....

Now if you were walking on the tracks and could feel the train coming or hear it... wouldnt you move off the tracks to let it go by.

supposed this tard just kept walking on the tracks.. when it hit her, it pushed her leg bone through her backside and drug her face up for 45 ft. I bet she was trying to kill herself or was going for permanant disability from this company.

in the past three years 5 people have lost their lives in that fucking place.
