buying a domain name from a stranger ?

OK, I want to buy a domain name from someone I completely don't know, he's not using it, it expirs in a bout 2 weeks.
Nothing big but a nice name for $200.
That means, I made him an offer for $200 and he replied, "sure, I'll take $200 for it".
Then I asked him how we should process and mentioned that I had used escrow.com in the past.
He told me "I'll look into that" and since then no reply.
I am not sure if escrow.com if worth using for a $200 transaction, but if I paypal him $200, how do I know that he will then transfer the name.
How do you usually buy names from complete strangers?
Escrow, only paypal, or paypal with some kind of faxed Bill of Sale?

ahem,

Write up a contract, have it notarized, send it to him, have him notarize it, have him mail it back to you to be signed for.

Send him $200.
If he screws you, you can always file "Theft by Deception" in all 50 states in USA, and report to Paypal, Item not recieved.

Just make sure to change the open srs information, ie: username and password.

That's pretty funny. If the guy was just going to take the money and run, i'm pretty sure he's not going to mind if it's $100 or $200.

You should've waited and seen if he was going to renew it, and if he did then offer him the 200, now he knows someone is interested and will deffinately renew...

Or it would expire and someone would pay $1k for it through Snap Names.

For $200, if you really want the domain, don't fuck around. Send him the money and hope for the best.

If it's $2000, then think about Escrow.com.

yes dicksmack, but it appears to be an issue with polishguy and this would reduce his risk by HALF!

....both amounts are insignificant in my opinion

If it's worth 200 it's probably worth nothing so I usually just take a chance and send the money if they won't do Escrow. However, you want to fight for escrow given an option.

Actually, I would pay up to $800 for it.
But since the domain wasn't active few days ago when I checked it and it expires in less than 2 weeks, so I offered him only $200 and he accepted that.

Thanks for all replies.
